It's like something out of a Hitchcock movie. A surly gang of warlike wasps have taken over a quiet New England Town. These insects are so aggressive, officials had to close a park in the town center. I don't know about you, but I have never heard of this happening.  According to Boston 25, the latest report says 3 people have already been stung. So beware of wasps so hostile, they closed a park in THIS Massachusetts town.

The tiny town of Ashland has had to close off Montenegro Square in the town center, near the library. It's currently blocked off because of the hostile wasps and bees. Becca Solomon, the town’s Conservation Agent, told Boston 25, "“They’re naturally territorial, so we always expect them to need a little more personal space,” said Solomon. “They’re exhibiting some aggressive behavior. They’re going to fly around your face like a warning — like a dog growls before they bark.” Apparently, wasps do not lose their stingers, like bees do. So, they will keep coming back for more!

Why are there so many wasps in this Massachusetts town now, and why are they so hostile? According to Solomon, it could be due to all the rain and the town did just do some work in the park. Most of the landscaping is new. She says " they’re naturally curious creatures.” Besides closing off the park area, the town did spray, but that didn't seem to work. Now, Ashland is trying out Yellow Jacket Traps, that they hang in the trees. They are hoping this works.

For those who are allergic, this is a potentially very dangerous situation. And with school back and the library right across the street, residents are worried. Resident Hally Quinones told Boston 25 News, “You open my door they fly right in the house. They’re just everywhere, you can’t even go outside." It seems these insects have become real pests! And the talk of the town.

When you've decided to settle down in a community and lay down some roots there are factors you need to consider. Invitation Homes says top things to keep in mind when choosing where to move include these 9 factors: Cost of living, Size of town or city, Housing, Traffic, Schools, Health needs (proximity to health care), Job Prospects, Entertainment and Social scene, and Safety.

A survey by OnePoll on behalf of Arlo found that 52% of people feel on edge about their personal safety every day.

Massachusetts just got some high praise for the safety of many of it's communities. The Bay State is well represented in NeighborhoodScout’s 2023 Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S. list - Massachusetts has 4 of the Top 10 spots!

But while Massachusetts scored well in safety it does come at a price as Mass was named "One of the Most Expensive States To Live In For 2023." Click the link for that uplifting story. Please note sarcasm.

Back to the good news: Massachusetts has 4 of the Top 10 Safest Cities in the Country! *applause* Neighborhood Scout determined their top 100 by using each town/city's population and total crime rate per one thousand residents to determine the chance of being a victim of crime there. The lower the chances of being a victim of crime, the safer (obviously).

So let's count down the Top 10! We'll give you the city, it's population, it's crime rate (per 1,000 residents), and finally *gulp* the chances of being a victim of crime in the town/city. (I hate the sound of that.) Congratulations Massachusetts on 4 in the Top 10! And another New England state takes the #1 spot!
