Haverhill, Massachusetts Most Haunted Place!
When a graveyard is a town’s most haunted spot… eek! Haverhill’s Hilldale Cemetery was established back in 1859. It’s 20 wide acres said to be haunted by spirits of men and women who first settled in the area and built the town of Haverhill.
I don’t know about you but just being in a graveyard at night already heightens my senses. I start hearing every twig snap as I walk, every frog croak or cricket chirp, and every single sound is obviously being made by a hungry ghost who wants to eat me. Imaginations, imaginations…
But at Hilldale Cemetery in Haverhill you just might be hearing or seeing an actual ghost according to many reports. There are no records of ghosts eating humans there though, thankfully. Visitors of the cemetery have witnessed apparitions of Civil War soldiers, others report feeling icy cold spots and sudden drops in temperature, both routinely believed to be signs of beings from the afterlife being present.
If you’re interested, ghost tours do pass through Hilldale Cemetery so you could look one of those up. Or, you could get the guts up to go solo in the middle of the night… but we don’t recommend it.
Also, if you do go tour the graveyard hoping to encounter a ghost person, please be respectful. It is a graveyard afterall.
There are apparently multiple haunted graveyards in Haverhill (the town must be crawling… err… floating with ghosts) but Hilldale Cemetery has the most haunting lore.
