There’s an actual “Barbie Oppenheimer” and she lives in Massachusetts!
This has been the summer of Morgan Wallen and “Barbenheimer.” And I think even Morgan Wallen would get a kick out of knowing that “Barbie Oppenheimer” is a real person…. and she lives here in Massachusetts!
Just imagine, you’re Barbie Oppenheimer. You’re just minding your business. Then you hear that they’re making a Barbie movie and it starts getting some buzz. It’s your first name so I’m sure you take note of it, a few friends probably joke with you about it, and you move on. Then you hear about another very buzzworthy movie which is going to be released on the same day called “Oppenheimer.” That’s your last name. Now things are starting to get weird. Soon everybody is in a frenzy about “Barbenheimer” and you feel like you won the Powerball. I mean, what are the chances?? Unfortunately, it doesn’t come along with the billion-dollar payday but still, it’s pretty cool.
So, who is Barbie Oppenheimer?
Barbie is a 68-year-old retired speech pathology professor who worked at Boston University and now lives with her husband in Newton. She worked at Mass General earlier in her professional life but spent most of it working at B.U. She was born Barbara Burrington but took the nickname “Barbie” which she later changed to “Barby” to differentiate herself from the much shorter plastic Barbie you’re probably thinking about right now. Her last name changed when she married Donald Oppenheimer in 1980. So there you have it. The original “Barbenheimer” was actually born in Massachusetts, 43 years before the two movies were released.
Where in Massachusetts is Barbie Oppenheimer From?
Barbie Oppenheimer of Newton says she has loved her newfound fame during this “Summer of Barbenheimer.” And we love that she exists in our home state. And no, her dreamhouse in Newton isn’t pink.
