Now trending on your radio...Morgan Wallen. Now trending in the classroom...Morgan Wallen. Wait, what is happening? ICYMI, Teachers are using a Morgan Wallen song to learn math. The song is so popular, so omnipresent, it just makes sense. I grew up with Schoolhouse Rock on TV, where we learned history, math and more by memorizing facts in songs.

Third grade teacher Faith McPeek used the ubiquitous "Last Night" from Morgan to teach her students to count by nines. It's infectious really. But Ms. McPeek can't take credit for the idea. In fact, she does credit another teacher for coming up with the song and the idea.

Sing Along

Here are the lyrics:

"Last night we learned to count by 9's.

9, 18, 27, 36, and 45.

You told me 54 and 63 were coming back.

But 72 and 81, and 90 were all that's left.

No way I'll forget my 9's."

Sean Connolly is the creative genius behind the Morgan Wallen by 9s song. He is a special needs teacher and has been at the game for 15 years. This gifted teacher uses popular music from stars like Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Backstreet Boys, Dierks Bentley and yes, Morgan Wallen to help kids learn. He is making learning fun for students. Connolly (aka: @teachwithmrc on Instagram) posted the Morgan math song back in June.

We've all heard the "song of the summer" (2023) hundreds of times. The repetitiveness makes adapting to the melody easy for the kids. I don't know about you, but it makes me what to go back to elementary school. With teachers like this, I have hope for our future.! Bravo to the creative educators helping to make school a much better place. According to Lesley University; " Many studies have been done about the positive effects of music on learning." It's fun, it's memorable and there is nothing like the joy of singing or listening to music. It is truly good for the soul, and the brain.

FUN FACT: Morgan Wallen's mom was a teacher. And take a look at a few more of your favorite music makers and their teacher moms:

In honor of World Teachers Day, let's take a look at some of our favorite country stars with teacher moms.  Did you know these 6 country superstars have moms who were teachers? I had no idea, with the exception of Carrie Underwood. She has often talked about growing up with her teacher mom, Carole.

Teachers are such an important part of our lives. We all have that favorite teacher who played a role in our lives, big or small. They help keep us in check and inspire. World Teacher Day was established in 1994 to celebrate the work of our teachers. It's fun to learn about these country stars' teacher moms.

These 6 country superstars were lucky enough to have moms who were teachers. As Carrie Underwood put it, "it's a blessing and a curse." As you can imagine the standard for school work for the child of a teacher had to have been exceptional. They all survived and thrived. In one case, a country artist had his mom as his music teacher. That worked out well. So, take a look at these familiar faces and voices. Did you know these 6 country superstars have moms who were teachers?

Carrie Underwood

Back in 2012 Carrie saluted her mom, while on a CBS TV special called "Teachers Rock." She talked about her unique situation growing up with her mom also being her teacher. She said the experience was both "a blessing and a curse. You were my mom and my teacher at the same time. You were hard on me because I was your daughter in class. I was like Miss Underwood? Mom? Underwood?"

Lainey Wilson

We've heard the story of Lainey Wilson growing up in a town of  only 250 people. Baskin, Louisiana is where the country star was born and raised. Her dad, Brian Wilson was a farmer and her mom, Michelle was a school teacher. She sure seems like a fun mom. Did you see this?

Russell Dickerson

Russell Dickerson's parents instilled a love of music and an appreciation of it. His Dad was a church choir director. And as he told the CMA Foundation, “My mom was my 4th grade music teacher, and I was in band from 6th grade to senior year. I look back on my school years and get choked up sometimes thinking about some of my incredible teachers. "

Reba McEntire

According to Taste of Countrythe queen of country's mom had a long career in education. "Jacqueline McEntire worked in public education for nearly 20 years as a teacher, secretary and librarian." Remarkably Reba's mom was awarded an honorary degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University at the age of 89. That was 6 years ago.  Jacqueline passed away in 2020.

Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen's mother, Lesli worked as a teacher.  Morgan's song "I Thought You Should Know" was written for her.  Lesli is even featured in the video for the #1 hit.

Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt is the oldest of three children. His parents are dad Allen, an insurance agent, and mom Joan who is a teacher. Sam is appreciative of all his mom did to raise him and support him through football and music. He wrote a song about her and all the important women in his life, appropriately titled "Women In My Life."

Hunt told Music Mayhem after he shared the song with his mother,"she’s my biggest fan. She loves to send emojis, so I got her message with maybe 10 emojis or so afterward, and she told me she cried when she listened to it. Of course, she’ll cry at the drop of a hat, but I’m glad she approved of it too.”
