The Sun WILL Come Out After All Because ANNIE Is Coming To Boston!
The sun will come out tomorrow because Annie is coming to Boston!
This Is What Annie Is All About
Annie is a heartwarming musical set in Depression-era New York City. The story revolves around a fiery and optimistic 11-year-old orphan named Annie. Annie has spent most of her life in the miserable confines of a Girls Orphanage under the tyrannical care of Miss Hannigan. Despite the bleak surroundings, Annie holds onto hope, literally and physically with a locket and a note left by her parents promising to return for her one day.
Annie is finally able to leave Miss Hannigan when Grace Farrell, the assistant to the wealthy and reclusive billionaire Oliver Warbucks, arrives at the orphanage. She’s searching for an orphan to spend the Christmas holidays at Warbucks’ mansion. Annie is chosen, and she quickly charms her way into Warbucks’ heart. Moved by her spirit, Warbucks decides to help Annie search for her long-lost parents, offering a reward to anyone who can prove their relation to the child. This offer attracts many fraudsters, including Miss Hannigan’s scheming brother Rooster and his girlfriend, Lily.
Why Annie Is So Great
Annie’s hope, resilience, and infectious optimism impacts everyone she meets. She teaches the rest of the characters and audience about love, family, and the idea that “the sun will come out tomorrow.” The musical is celebrated for its memorable songs, including “Tomorrow,” “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” and “Maybe.”
Annie has been one of my favorite musicals since I was 8 years old. I saw it for the first time on stage in Portsmouth, NH at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. I loved seeing kids my age singing and dancing. The energy that they brought to the stage was inspiring! I wanted to play the role of Annie so badly, I even considered dying my hair red and getting a perm to my my hair curly.
At the age of 35, I still love the musical. I can’t wait to see it when it comes to Boston in February.
