Is It Wrong To Put A Bucket Of Nips Out For The Parents On Halloween
Rodney put out a bucket of nips for the parents along with the candy for the trick or treaters on Halloween. His neighbors are upset because some of the kids took some nips, but he thinks its their fault for not supervising their children on Halloween.
Jonathan: Hey, Rodney, what’s up?
Rodney: Hey, guys. How’s it going?
Jonathan: It’s going great. So you have a problem with exposing children to nips?
Ayla: Whoa, whoa. Hello?
Jonathan: Let’s talk about what happened last night on Halloween.
Rodney: I took my kids trick or treating, and I did a normal thing. I set out buckets of candy for the kids coming to our house.
Ayla: Okay, so no one was there to physically pass them out. You just left them?
Rodney: Yeah.
Ayla: You know, a lot of people do that.
Rodney: A lot of people do that. Yeah. So I put out a bucket for the kids that just said, you know, just take one. And then I put out a bucket for adults, clearly marked adults, but just take one. The first one had candy, the second one had nips.
Ayla: Nips?
Jonathan: So like vodka, rum, that kind of thing?
Rodney: Yeah. Tequila. Yes.
Jonathan: On its surface that seems like a fun idea. I’ve actually seen this where if you’re trick or treating with your kids, there are some places that will give you a shot or give you a drink and things like that. I’ve never seen it just in a bucket, just laid out there.
Ayla: I believe that this is where the problem is going.
Jonathan: So what happened there, Rodney?
Rodney: So I get home and they’re both empty. I’m like, Great, great idea.
Jonathan: I’m awesome. I’m so great.
Rodney: But then today I get a call from the next door neighbor who’s like, Yeah, my kid was drinking. He had taken some of the nips from your bucket and you know this kid’s like 13, okay? And so I was like, well first of all, he’s too old to be trick or treating, you know? But second of all, if you don’t trust your kids, then you should be accompanying them out. If he’s still immature enough to go trick or treating but he’s by himself. Right. This is clearly marked adult.
Jonathan: But it was marked for parents. So why is a kid reaching his grubby little hands in there?
Ayla: So you’re not taking any responsibility that a 13 year old went into a bucket that was clearly marked adults, but it clearly had booze in it and a 13 year old boy took it, God forbid. So you don’t think there’s anything wrong with that?
Rodney: And another kid, I got a call actually about another kid.
Jonathan: Okay. Let me ask you, were the parents saying the kids were drunk or that they were drinking?
Rodney: They said they were drinking.
Jonathan: Okay. But they weren’t saying they were stumbling around vomiting or all that stuff.
Rodney: No, so it’s not a huge deal. Good point. And secondly, this is a parenting issue.
Ayla: A parenting issue, Rodney?
Jonathan: Why is it Rodney’s job to make sure that you don’t let your kids drink free nips that he’s left out?
Ayla: Because. Rodney, are you a parent? Like, what if your kids got into someone else’s bag of men?
Rodney: First of all, I accompanied my kids last night. I didn’t send them out by themselves because I’m a good parent.
Jonathan: All right, all right, All right. Leave it there.
Ayla: Jim loved that.
Jonathan: What do you think about what Rodney did again? He took his kid out trick or treating last night for Halloween, as many of us do. He left a bucket that said take one filled with candy, but left another bucket that said Take one for parents. And it was filled with alcoholic nips. Bunch of kids got into them, and now Rodney is feeling the wrath of his neighbors. Did he do something wrong here?
Rodney: And my wife.
Jonathan: And his wife and apparently. Is he wrong?
Rodney: Thank you. What do you think?
Ayla: Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good idea.
