My Husband Chose His “Spot” Over Me
Delaney went to her husband’s favorite bar with him to watch a Patriots game. She had never gone with him before but wanted to be supportive. When they got there he sat on a barstool with no place for her to sit. When she asked him to move he said that was “his spot” and he wasn’t moving. So she left. Now she thinks he didn’t want her there in the first place. Do you think he was gaslighting her because he didn’t actually want to watch the game with her? Or is he really just that attached to his spot?
Check Out The Conversation Here:
Jonathan: We got Delaney on. Hey, Delaney.
Delaney: Hey. How’s it going?
Jonathan: It’s going well. So, what happened to you this weekend involving a bar, involving the Patriots?
Delaney: So this weekend, I decided that I wanted to tag along with my husband to the bar. He’s been going to this bar probably like twice a week since I’ve known him. We’ve been married for about five years, but I’ve never actually gone with him. He’s definitely a regular there. But I’m just kind of getting into football and sports and he goes there to watch the game. I was like, Oh, why don’t I come with you? And he was excited that I wanted to go. So we went.
Jonathan: This Sunday? So it was the Patriots game.
Delaney: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Jonathan: Okay.
Ayla: You say you wanted to go to the bar to watch the game?
Jonathan: Yeah. It’s a perfect time to get drunk lately, but sure. So you went with him. You want to watch the Patriots, you go into the bar, what happens?
Delaney: So we go into the bar and he’s saying hi to everybody. They clearly know him. And we go over to the bar. And he sits on a bar stool, and I’m kind of just standing behind him. There’s nowhere for me to sit. I don’t want to just stand here. Let’s go sit in a booth. And he was like, No, this is my spot. This is where I sit at the bar.
Jonathan: My butt cheeks have dented this stool.
Ayla: Jesus, how often does he go? I know you said twice a week.
Jonathan: But is it? Probably more than twice a week.
Delaney: So I was like, You can’t just expect me to stand here the entire time. So I was really annoyed and he would not move to a booth. I just left because I thought it was really disrespectful and rude that I was going and trying to do something with him and be at a place that he really likes. And I just felt like he was not considering me at all. So now we’re just really fighting about it because he feels like this was his place and I was intruding on it, which I think is a really unfair characterization. And I’m feeling like he did this all on purpose because he does not want me to go back to the bar with him.
Jonathan: Oh, all right. Well, first of all, Delaney, you can hang out with me and watch football on Sundays if you want.
Ayla: Yeah, but he doesn’t watch the Pats.
Jonathan: I’m not going to watch the Patriots. I’m a Chiefs fan. So if you can get into the Chiefs then we can hang out.
Delaney: Ugh…
Jonathan: All right. Now, I don’t want to watch with you.
Ayla: Regulars at bars, though, I just want to quickly say that they are a different breed. You know like I feel like I’ve seen I’ve been a regular at a bar.
Jonathan: I always kind of wanted to.
Ayla: But the regulars, they do the same thing every time. So that’s his thing. See, I think there’s people that can relate to this. I would never sit in a different spot.
Jonathan: Do you think people are going to agree with their husband?
Ayla: Sadly.
