No Surprise-Massachusetts Has One Of America’s ‘Most Loathed Highways’
Can you guess which highway in the Bay State is despised by drivers in a nationwide poll? This congested roadway made the list of the top 100 worst in the United States. To those of us who commute daily in the Boston area, it’s no surprise. Massachusetts has one of America’s Most Loathed Highways.
A survey of 3,000 drivers in the country was conducted by Gunther Volvo Cars. New England was all over the map, but Massachusetts ranked #35. If you’ve ever been to California, you consider yourself lucky to live in New England. The US-101 is the absolute worst! And this survey, as discovered by Boston 25 News, proved it. It ranked #1 on the list of the Most Loathed Highways. Commuters in San Francisco and LA on the 101 deal with “significant traffic congestion and frequent bottlenecks,” far beyond what we do.
Not to diminish our pain and suffering, but just to put in perspective, things could be worse. We could be California. The Golden State also had the #2 and 3 rankings of the worst because of 2 other notorious highways, I-5 and I-405.
New England’s Most Loathed
Let’s talk about our traffic issues. No surprise, Massachusetts has one of America’s Most Loathed Highways and if you were on it today, you know it’s I-93. Drivers report it’s especially arduous in and around Boston, and therefore it was ranked #35 in the top 100. Daily traffic jams are part of our lives. And don’t even think about trying to get to the Cape on a Friday in summer on time.
If traveling on I-95 anywhere in New England tries your patience, at least your not alone. All those drivers next to you feel your pain. This interstate showed up a lot in the survey of the most loathed highways. Connecticut apparently has it worse than we do with 93. 95 in the Southwestern area from Bridgeport to Stamford ranked #11 on this list.
In addition I-95 in New Hampshire ranks #24. In Maine it shows at #27, and in Rhode Island it ranks at #41. Even more deplorable is Rhode Island’s I-195 which came in at #17 on the list of the most loathed highways. Yup, New England had a representation in this survey.
We Knew Boston Traffic Was Bad, But Not THIS Bad!
