Boston Named 4th Worst Driving City in US; Boston Drivers: “That’s Better Than We Thought!”
I watch a fairly constant flow of studies and surveys spit headlines across the internet daily. Every so often a ‘Worst Drivers in the US’ study surfaces and immediately I get that ‘uh oh’ reaction in my tum-tum. Why? Because there’s a good chance that Boston or Massachusetts is getting trashed again. What’s even stranger is my reaction when those studies on driving don’t declare us the worst. It’s like I get disappointed that I don’t get to get angry. Almost like we lost by not being amongst the worst! It’s very complicated, I’m an odd duck.
Anyway, here comes the latest ‘Worst Drivers in the US’ study and…. we’re amongst the worst again. I’m angry and it feels good. LOL
The study by Circuit says Boston drivers are 4th worst in the country after comparing traffic congestion, accidents, and road quality to determine the overall driving experience in major cities across the country.
New York was the big loser, named THE worst driving city in America. After deciding to drive instead of taking the bus as we usually do last time, I can see that. Bus for life now. Chicago was declared the second worst city for driving, Los Angeles took third place.
If you live in Massachusetts and have to deal with Boston traffic sometimes just think of it like this: we’re high-strung in Massachusetts. We are hustlers who want everything done now, now, now. We expect the same in ourselves. Boston traffic just forces us to slow it down and smell the asphalt. A moment of vehicular zen in our go, go, go life… and I hate every second of it.
OK… we’ve dealt with the “Boston drivers are the worst” topic, now on to “Boston is the rudest city!”…
Boston is One of America's Rudest Cities, But Which City Topped the List?
How RUDE? Bostonians are rude, this we know. I mean, we almost use the title as a badge of honor. Many of us take pride in the fact that we can be rude at times. But when you look nationally, we are certainly up there as far as rude cities. Before we count down the top 10 rudest cities in America, let’s take a look at what makes a city and its people rude.
The survey that released this data and its findings is Survey Monkey. According to their site, “the two polls for this survey had a total of 2,092 respondents with a margin of error of 2%: 1,075 respondents were collected 10/25/19 – 10/26/19, and 1,017 respondents were collected 11/22/19 – 11/23/19.” And what constitutes a rude person? How about anyone not friendly? Maybe people who swear at you or people who don’t let you merge in traffic. Or how about people with road roage. All of these things occur on a daily basis here in Boston so it’s no surprise that we are considered some of the rudest people nationwide. However, when you look at other studies about rudest cities in the WORLD, Bostonians didn’t make the top 30 which seems like a shock.
So what happened here was, Americans who responded to this survey were asked to name the top 5 rudest cities from a list of the 50 largest metro areas in the country. Cities that placed outside of the top 10 include: Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, Las Vegas, Nevada, Dallas, Texas and Miami, Florida. They placed 11-15 respectively. So let’s take a look at which cities are the top 10 rudest in the country.
