Boston One Of America’s Worst Cities to Drive In, Only These Cities Rank Higher

Anyone who lives in Boston knows, it is HORRIBLE to drive in. And I’m talking ANY time of day. It doesn’t have to be rush hour. In fact, in Boston there really is no rush hour. Traffic starts building around 4:30am every weekday morning and doesn’t stop until after 8pm every night. If you’re driving on the Expressway, forget it. You could be stopped in traffic at any time of day. For these reasons, Boston has been ranked high on a new study taken by a website called Circuit. Now the way they determined their rankings was from the eyes of the people who drive around the city the most…delivery drivers.

According to the site, they explored 80 U.S. cities and took into account the challenges delivery drivers face while navigating through each one. The main areas of their analysis came from traffic, fuel costs, and safety data to discover the best and worst places to be a delivery driver.  Boston ranks in the top 5 for worst cities to drive in. In fact, it came in at #4. The only cities to beat Boston include Los Angeles (#3), Chicago (#2) and New York City (#1).

Boston also ranks high on the list of most time spent in rush hour (fourth), time in congestion (5th), fuel price (3rd). However one area where Boston actually ranked relatively low was in fatal crashes. We actually rank 57th here.

So we looked at Boston’s overall rankings for being the worst city to drive in. Now, we also have a list of the worst actual roads to drive in. These roads were ranked on crashes and more specifically, deadly crashes. Find out if the road you drive on daily made the list. Just keep scrolling.

The 10 Deadliest Roads in Massachusetts Are All Within 50 Miles of Boston

What the most deadliest roads in Massachusetts? Well now we know, thanks to Moneygeek.com.  But before we run them down, let’s take a look at exactly how bad the traffic is in Boston.

Anyone who’s ever driven in Boston has had to endure what seems like some of the worst traffic in the world. Now, we know that feeling is real. According to some new analysis from Inrix.com, Boston traffic is not only the second worst in the country, but it’s the FOURTH worst in the ENTIRE WORLD! “Only drivers in London (156 hours), Chicago (155) and Paris (138) lost more hours in traffic in 2022” according to this study.

But some say traffic is a good thing? Why? According to transportation analyst Bob Pishue, “Congestion shows that the economy is moving. Traffic is a problem, but it’s reflective of people going to the office, running errands, shopping, visiting relatives, which are all good things.” Yeah, but try telling that to the hundreds of thousands of people who sit in traffic on the Expressway every week.

In regards to the busiest and most dangerous roads in Boston, obviously I-93 stands on top and is considered the fourth most congest highway in the entire country! But what are the most dangerous ROADS in Massachusetts? We’ve found out that answer too and unfortunately, they are all within 50 miles of Boston. So before you make your travel plans this weekend, or any other weekend for that matter, consider these roads and take extra precautions. Oh, and as far as which month had the most fatalities last year, it was June. And over half of the fatal accidents in the state involve drunk driving.

So when you’re driving this weekend, be aware of your surroundings. And of course, NEVER drink and drive. These are the deadliest roads that are in the state.

  • #10 I 95-South from Exit 1 to 2B

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 3.5 accidents per mile. It’s a .8 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Attleboro stretch of Massachusetts.

  • #9 I 95 North exit 7- 12A

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 1.1  accidents per mile. It’s a 2.7 mile stretch of road.  It’s also in the Attleboro, North Attleboro and Mansfield stretch of Massachusetts.

  • #8 I 495 South from Stow Rd. - Exit 70

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 1 accidents per mile. It’s a 2.9 mile stretch of road.  It’s also in the Bolton and Harvard area of Massachusetts.

  • #7 I-195 East from Exit 1- Exit 5

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and .6 accidents per mile. It’s a 4.9 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Rehoboth and Swansea area of Massachusetts.

  • #6 I 95 North from Exit 28A - 31

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 1.1 accidents per mile. It’s a 2.6 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Wilmington and Stoneham area of Massachusetts.

  • #5 I 93 North from Exit 11B - 13B

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 1.9 accidents per mile. It’s a 1.6 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Boston area of Massachusetts.

  • #4 I 495 North exits 14-15

    This road had 3 fatal accidents, and 7.2 accidents per mile. It’s a .4 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Middleboro area of Massachusetts.

  • #3 I 93 North Exit 39-42

    This road had 4 fatal accidents, and 1.2 accidents per mile. It’s a 3.3 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Andover area of Massachusetts.

  • #2 Brockton Main Street from Perkins Ave to Stonehouse Hill Rd.

    This road had 5 fatal accidents, and 1.5 accidents per mile. It’s a 3.2 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Brockton and Easton area of Massachusetts.

  • #1 I 95 North S Main St. - Exit 21

    This road had 5 fatal accidents, and 1.2 accidents per mile. It’s a 4.3 mile stretch of road.  It’s in the Norwood, Walpole, Sharon area of Massachusetts.
