Massachusetts Does THIS More Than Every Other State (But One) Around Christmas

If you said “put up a real Christmas tree,” “watch Home Alone,” or “flip off a fellow driver,” good guesses but no. Massachusetts residents spend the second most amount of money Christmas shopping online out of all 50 states! And I personally helped us get that high on the list. Also shout out to my hard working delivery drivers. Sorry we rely so dang heavily on you. I wish I didn’t have so many stairs in front of my house.

Financial publisher The Lazy Trader conducted the study, which gathered data from search terms on Google over the last four years to determine the states that are most likely to shop online for gifts in December. It should be noted that data was broken down to “per 100,000 residents” to give all states an even playing field, no matter how geographically large or small the state is.

New Jersey was the big winner. Residents of The Garden State do their Christmas shopping in front of a computer screen more than people in any other state. Massachusetts takes the runner-up position. We use online shopping as our holiday shopping more than residents in 48 states.

I personally love shopping online. Less travel and traffic, less lines, less circling a parking lot while swearing to Christmas carols to try to get in the holiday mood. But I do miss seeing all the holiday store decorations… and…. well I think that’s pretty much all I miss while doing the bulk of my holiday shopping online. I do make a point to buy presents from lots of local mom and pop shops though – that’s pretty important to me.

    This 1946 movie is about an angel sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.

  • #6 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

    One of Melissa’s holiday favorite. She says that Clark W. Griswold will have you checking each and every bulb on your Christmas lights until the end of time.

  • #5 - Elf

    This one is up higher for me personally, and every year has me screaming, “Santa, I know him!”

  • #4 - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

    Oh Rudolph. How can we not love the movie that introduced us to the Island of Misfit Toys and Yukon Cornelius.

  • $3 - A Charlie Brown Christmas

    This dance scene in A Charlie Brown Christmas is enough to make you watch year after year. Love it!

  • #2 - A Christmas Story

    Guess there’s a reason that networks have marathons and run this movie around the clock. You can just jump in and out whenever you want.

  • #1 - Home Alone

    The movie that launched Macaulay Culkin into stardom. He stars as Kevin who gets left at home by his family going on a Christmas vacation, and has to protect the family home from burglars.
