Watch: The NH Seacoast Is Completely Flooded Right Now And No One Can Drive Safely
There’s a ton of damage and destruction along the NH seacoast, including towns like Rye and Hampton. The footage is pretty scary.
I woke up this morning to a lot of videos sent by my parents, who live in Rye, NH. They live just a few streets away from Rye Beach so they had a front row seat to the flooding, heavy winds, and stormy seas. I’ll be honest, the video that my dad sent to me is definitely not safe for work because he swears many times. (Come on Dad!) But in the videos you can clearly see that the water has made it’s way from the ocean to the streets. Residents can’t drive close to the beach. Some people, like my dad, took a chance and walked down to the water to get video. It’s the worst storm I’ve ever seen in that area.
Video That My Mom Sent Me Of the NH Seacoast
Thick, white sea foam covers the roads. It’s like a stinky, scary bubble bath that no one wants to bathe in. And the walls along the coast that are there to protect the residents from waves and storms? Well those rocks are now in the road too.
How Did This Happen?
It was a combination of stormy seas, mixed with a storm in the air. Heavy winds and massive waves created flooding. The entire seacoast was already trying to recover from a storm on Wednesday night, which caused massive flooding. Just when residents finished cleaning up the debris, another rainy storm hit the seacoast.
Many residents along the coast were evacuated from their homes. Police and Fire closed the roads going into Hampton Beach. Hampton Police Chief, Alex Reno, told Seacoast Online, “This is the worst flooding I’ve ever seen at Hampton Beach in the 22 years I’ve worked for the Police Department.”
Seacoast residents are still not full in the clear. Heavy winds are expected through Sunday, and then snow is expected on Tuesday.
If you live in the area, stay safe out there!
