I'm sorry. Two words which sometimes take so much to utter. And even when uttered, were they actually meant? Did that "I'm sorry" have meaning or was it empty and just for show?

A new study by Preply looked at our apologies and compared them from state to state to find out which states apologize the most... and (maybe even more interestingly) who actually means it when they say it. They uncovered some interesting info so let's run through some of the locally pertinent nuggets, then I'll link to the entire study so you can go bathe in all of the apologetic data yourself.

The study found that Massachusetts residents have no problem apologizing. Unfortunately, though, those apologies are pretty empty half the time.

Bay State residents apologize 3.36 times a day according to the study. That puts us in 13th place in the country as far as our frequencies of apologies go. 12 states say "I'm sorry" more, 37 states say it less. However, Massachusetts gets a "sincerity score" of 47 out of 100. And you're thinking to yourself, 'what in the world is a sincerity score??' I think the most helpful way to think about it is this: out of 100 'I'm sorry's in Massachusetts, 47 were sincere while 53 of those apologies were not. We're the 9th most insincere state when we're dishing out apologies. California barely ever means their apologies, they rank #1 most insincere in the US.

So what does this mean for you? People will apologize to you when they inconvenience you in Massachusetts - but - most of the time it's just for you and your feelings because 53% of the time the person who said it doesn't really care one bit. And for some reason this doesn't surprise me. Oddly it kind of brings me comfort and makes me feel home. Man, we're weird in Massachusetts. I got two middle fingers on the way to work today and I feel like it's gonna be an A-OK day.

I'm really sorry if this article made you feel disappointed about Massachusetts. But to tell the truth, I'm currently part of the 53%. Have a great day!

Also, sorry about your lead paint Massachusetts. This time I'm a part of the 47% because daaaaaaannnnnngggg that stinks. We have a lot of lead paint in Massachusetts. Check out the towns that have it worst below:

10 Massachusetts Towns Among Worst in the Country When it comes to Lead Paint!

Shouldn't we be done with lead paint by now? We've known that it's really bad at least since I was a kid... and I'm pretty old! But somewhere around 35% of US homes still have lead paint up on the walls! What cities and towns have the biggest lead paint problems? Paint Gnome stepped up to help answer that question, ranking 2024’s Most Lead Paint-Vulnerable Cities.

To help figure this out Paint Gnome compared the 500 biggest U.S. cities based on 2 categories: the number and share of homes built in the years when lead paint use was common and access to certified lead-based paint inspection, risk assessment, and abatement firms. It shouldn't be too surprising that 10 of the 50 most lead paint-vulnerable areas are right here in Massachusetts. I say it shouldn't be too surprising because Massachusetts is so old - but to tell the truth, I'm actually pretty surprised. I guess even though we have our fair share of issues and problems in Massachusetts, I like to think that we have our stuff together - at least above average in the US.

Massachusetts had the most cities and towns in the Top 50 with 10. Pennsylvania had the second most in the Top 50 with 6. California, Ohio, and New York tied for the third biggest lead paint problem, each with 4 entries in the Top 50. So Massachusetts (unfortunately in this case) was easily the big winner. Ugh...

So I'm sure you're wondering which 10 Massachusetts cities made the Top 50 Most Lead Paint-Vulnerable Cities of 2024. Well here they come! And if you'd like to see all 50 entries in the Top 50 - or see MORE than the Top 50 to see where your city or town may fall on the list, check out all of Paint Gnome's findings RIGHT HERE!

And if after the bad news you need some GOOD Massachusetts news, here's the 5 best towns in New England to find a job in 2024. There's a whopping one in the top 5 from Massachusetts. That's positive, right?
