My Husband Drove Me All The Way To Providence…For A Slice Of PIZZA!
My husband, Rob, was convinced that he found the “world’s best slice of pizza” in Providence, RI. His cousin, Stevie, told him about this Fox Point pizza spot called Pizza Marvin and brought him there. (Fox Point is a little section of Providence to anyone who is not familiar). Rob came home bragging that he just ate the best slice he’s ever had. Naturally I asked him, “Did you bring me a slice so I could determine if it’s really the best slice?” That’s when he told me that I’d have to actually go to Providence and try it in person.
I put Pizza Marvin in my GPS and realized it was 51 minutes away from our home in Weymouth, MA. I was thinking to myself, Almost an hour each way to get a slice of pizza, are you nuts!? The answer is, yes we are nuts. We got in the car and drove an hour to Pizza Marvin.
Here’s What We Ordered In Providence At Pizza Marvin
Since it was my first time at Pizza Marvin, the nice woman at the cashier explained to me that if you buy an entire pie, it comes “Neapolitan style.” That means that the crust is thinner and wood fired. But their slices come “Sicilian-style,” which means that they’re thicker in size, almost like focaccia bread. I ordered two slices of their Sicilian-style pizza because that’s the style my husband was raving about.
This is what we ordered. Rob got two slices of their pepperoni with honey drizzled on top of it. I ordered one of those slices, and one cheese slice with pesto and basil on top. Our son had their meatball appetizer with ricotta cheese.
My Review Of The Slices
There was a lot of hype about these slices from my husband so here’s my official review. IT WAS THE BEST DAMN SLICE OF PIZZA I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!
I’m not even kidding. For once, my husband was right. These slices are the perfect combination of crunch, cheese and flavor. I’m not sure if it’s the way they cook it, but the bottom crust and the top cheesy layer both had an incredible crunch to it when you bit into it. But inside, the dough was pillow-y and light. The crust also had a crusted parmesan edge, which elevated the experience to the next level.
But the toppings were another story. The pepperoni was crunchy, and the honey brought out the sweetness. I ate that one first. Honestly, I wish I ate it slower because each bite was better than the last. I definitely rushed it and wish I had that time back in my life. The second slice was the pesto and basil one. It was less messy than the pepperoni one and a bit lighter in flavor. But you could tell that the basil and pesto were made fresh in house. It was incredible, but also so different than the first slice. We also ordered their in-house, homemade pear cream soda from their tap.
Would I Go Back To Pizza Marvin in Providence?
Would I go back? The answer is, yes! When? As soon as possible. I would go every day of the week if I could. And by the way, I feel like I’ve had enough pizza in my lifetime to know a great slice. So for me to say this is the BEST one, that’s gotta say something, right? If I’m missing out on somewhere else, feel free to let me know, and I’ll give it a taste.
