The Average Condo in Boston Costs Stupid Money – Here’s How Much!
What do you think the average cost of a condo in Boston is right now? I was shocked when I saw this number but I guess I shouldn’t be. Everything is too dang expensive right now! Prices have been on the increase while jobs don’t seem to be paying much more. Ugggggg.
New numbers from The Warren Group show that Boston real estate is getting more expensive even as fewer condos and homes are sold. And while fewer condos were sold in Boston in 2023 than in any other year since 2012, condo prices in Boston have reached record highs. Boston condo sales were down 17% just from 2022 to 2023 – BUT – the average cost of a condo in Boston reached a new jaw-dropping milestone.
The average price of a condominium in Boston in 2023 was $1,003,000 according to the Warren Group. This is the first time the average price has crossed the million dollar mark. To put a little perspective on that, I did a really quick search for how much a million dollar mortgage would break down as monthly payments and the very rough answer was $6,256 and suddenly I’m having a minor anxiety attack. That’s just over $75,000 a year… just on a mortgage. I wish I were that rich. But even then I’ll bargain shop, thanks.
East Boston might be a place I’d bargain shop. While it’s still not necessarily a bargain by any means, the average condo in Eastie is a much less jaw-dropping $625,000. Curious about South Boston? The average condo there was $830,000 in 2023.
I guess this is why I live way out somewhere in suburbia. lol
But if you decide to bite the bullet and get that million dollar condo in Boston A) I’m kind of jealous but B) now you’re driving in Boston every time you leave your house and…
Worst Cities for Driving: Boston Makes the Top 10
It’s a new year, and here we have a new, dubious list that Boston has landed on: the worst cities for driving in America.
So what else is new, right? Last year, we learned about how dangerous driving in Massachusetts can be. We also took a hard look at road rage in Boston. It was bad, but not the worst. Which would be a funny slogan for the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to adopt: “Visit Boston: Our Road Rage is Bad, But It’s Not The Worst!” VisitMA, I’m available to consult. Call me.
This new bit of data about the dangers of driving in the Commonwealth comes courtesy of Circuit. It’s called The Worst Cities for Driving in America and, as I’ve already mentioned, Boston not only lands on the list, but it lands in the Top 10. “Well, how bad can it be, though? How many cities are in the study,” you might ask. Bad, I would answer. As there are 80 cities in the study.
Worst Cities for Driving: Boston Makes the Top 10
The methodology for this one is pretty robust, too. Circuit collected data from a variety of sources, and used the following five variables to determine their rankings: time spent in rush hour per year, time spent in traffic congestion per year, money spent on fuel due to congestion per year, last mile speed (all from 2022), and fatal car accidents (from 2021).
You can dig into their full report here, which also includes per-category breakdowns and lots of interesting info on how driving in these cities impacts delivery drivers. Keep on scrolling to find out where Boston landed and–more importantly–which cities outranked us. That way we’ll have someone else to make fun of to distract from the fact that we’re as bad as we are.
