New Massachusetts License Plate Honors Dr. Seuss And ‘The Cat In The Hat’
“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”
(From All The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss)
We all could be off and away and sporting a cool- as- a- cat new license plate. The drive to make it happen has been in the works since 2019. Now it’s here! A new Massachusetts license plate honors Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat, so buckle up. Let’s learn more about the Dr. Seuss license plate.
According to Boston.com, the state needs 750 applications in order to “produce the specialty plates for various organizations and nonprofits.” Those 750 applications for the license plates are required by state law and it’s the minimum required by the RMV. Guess what cool cat? It happened just like that… And just in time to celebrate the late, great Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Seuss On The Loose
The famous children’s book author is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts. That’s where you will find a museum dedicated to him and his works. Each plate features one of Seuss’ most notable characters, the Cat in the Hat. CBS News Boston reports the plates are available for $40 and proceeds benefit the Springfield Museums, in Geisel’s hometown.
The Dr. Seuss license plates were officially approved on March 2nd, what would have been his 120th birthday, according to CBS News Boston. Did you know Seuss’s real name is Theodore Geisel? He is perhaps the most famous of children’s’ book authors. A $40 price tag for the specialty plates will benefit the Springfield Museums, in Geisel’s hometown.

The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum is the newest in the group known as The Springfield Museums. It opened in 2017. Other museums include two art, one science and one history museum.
Be sure to remember the immortal words of Seuss when you hit the road in your new plate…“OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO! You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”
WCVB relayed: “According to the RMV, it will take another six to eight months for the specialty plates to be produced. The Dr. Seuss plates will be added to the DOT website as another specialty plate option available when Massachusetts drivers register their cars.” I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to seeing the new Massachusetts License Plate that Honors Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat.
