Boston: The Best City For Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day This Year
Different cities have their own St. Patrick’s Day traditions. For instance, Chicago leading up to St. Patrick’s Day is known for dyeing its river green. Several other places are known for their elaborate pageants, pub crawls, or long processions of marching bagpipers in parades. But not every city is ideal for St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
WalletHub, a financial advisor website, compared 200 of the largest cities across 15 key metrics to find the best places to wear green and not break the bank celebrating. They mentioned that consumers are projected to spend $7.2 billion on the holiday this year.
Their data set ranges from Irish pubs and restaurants per capita to the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day to the weather forecast.
“St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the Irish, but it’s become a beloved cultural holiday for millions of Americans regardless of their ancestry, said Cassandra Happe, a WalletHub analyst. She went on to say that the best cities for St. Patrick’s Day combine rich traditions with tasty and affordable food, safe conditions to celebrate, and good weather. “Celebrating in one of these cities will increase your chances of having a memorable holiday, as long as you don’t overdo it,” she continued.
Boston is the best city for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year.
The ranking highlighted Boston for offering people plenty of festive activities including the city’s huge St. Patrick’s Day parade. They also pointed out that Irish food and drink are prevalent in the city. Boston has the fifth-most Irish pubs and sixth-most Irish restaurants per capita. “These bars and restaurants are very affordable for the most part, too,” they said. Additionally, Boston is the seventh-most Irish city in the U.S. in terms of ancestry, with 13% of the city’s residents having a claim to Irish roots, according to the ranking.
Following behind Boston are Chicago, Illinois, and Savannah, Georgia.
