Cheap Flight Options On Airlines New Cape Cod Routes
The Bourne and Sagamore Bridges are about to get very busy with Memorial Day right around the corner. However, with American Airlines now flying direct, there are also some relatively inexpensive flights to Cape Cod.
If you are coming from a local city or need to make a trip out of the Cape at some point this summer, you now have options beyond Cape Air or making the drive over the bridges.
“American Airlines is adding seven new routes next summer to give customers more ways to plan trips to hike rugged coastal mountains, watch whales breach in Canadian waters, or feel the sea breeze blow in on the shores of Cape Cod,” American Airlines said in a press release back in October when these new flight routes were announced.
To focus specifically on the new routes via American Airlines, let’s examine what rates seem to be the most favorable so far for this summer.
For New York, these routes are based out of LaGuardia Airport. They will start to fly to Hyannis on June 5, and direct to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket on June 22.
Washington, DC, is also part of these new non-stop routes. Out of DCA, flights to Hyannis will start on June 22 as well.
How Do These Flights To Cape Cod Price Out?
As you would expect, flights during the mid-week are significantly cheaper than weekends or even Thursdays, when folks want to take advantage of those long summer Friday weekends.
For example, leaving LaGuardia on Wednesday, June 12, and returning a week later, you can score flights for as low as $136. This is for the lowest level ticket, with no bags or refund options available.
If we look in comparison to weekend flights, you can find these same great rates deep into the summer if you stick with the 11:06 AM route and the Basic Economy option. Bumping up to the Main or First fare option, you can expect your round-trip tickets to increase by $200 – $400.
Here’s how this compares to the Washington DC flights on American Airlines. It’s a bit more expensive. Granted this is also a longer flight. For example, a week in Cape Cod flying out of DCA in late July will run you about $290 to $300 roundtrip.
Time will tell how these new American Airlines flight routes will increase travel to the Cape this summer. It certainly has the potential to increase domestic tourism. However, with relatively inexpensive new flight options available, perhaps it will decrease the driving over the bridge traffic.
