Massachusetts: New Pickleball Franchise Plans To Launch With 7 Locations

Former NFL Quarterback Drew Brees often gave a nod to Boston and his love of Ted Williams. In fact, Williams is why Brees wore #9. Now Brees is giving Massachusetts some love once again, but it’s in the form of pickleball. This Super Bowl champ has backed a new pickleball franchise called The Picklr, and they are set to launch in the Bay State soon.

While we are still awaiting the towns and exact locations where Picklr will be moving in, the company has stated seven locations are committed and coming soon.

In the meantime, let’s dig into what makes this pickleball establishment different. Here is what you have to look forward to.

What To Expect With This New Pickleball Franchise Experience

As you would expect, The Picklr is an indoor pickleball facility with multiple courts. They operate off a membership model similar to that of a gym or your local fitness center.

The Picklr describes themselves and their business model as “The fastest-growing club for the fastest-growing sport.” In fact, they are very transparent about all their expected business growth over the next two years. Looking at their franchise map, you can see that 275 locations across the country are committed.

In terms of actually playing the game, The Picklr offers members an all-encompassing pickleball experience. There’s unlimited play, tournaments, leagues to join, clinics, and member events. Each membership holder can also bring four guests to their club per month. Locker rooms and showers are also an amenity of every club.

As for Drew Brees, the Super Bowl champ has a long history in the franchise business and the sport of pickleball. Brees has shared via his social media handles how he’s played in the NOLA Picklefest. He’s also an owner of Walk-On’s restaurants, Smalls Sliders, and Jimmy John’s franchises. In fact, his world came together in an Instagram post-Brees shared in November when Jimmy John’s gifted Brees some customer pickleball gear.

Brees has also promoted the Picklr to his 1.7 million Instagram followers quite a bit lately. Recent posts this week show clips of Brees talking about Picklr expanding to the state of Indiana, a state Brees has ties to as a Purdue alumni.

Picklr also reported that if you are now intrigued by this business model and have a love of pickleball, they show 20 franchise territories are still available in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts: Here Is Where You Can Go On A Floating Tiki Hut

A tiki hut represents happy vibes. The ocean often has the same effect. You can put them together and experience a floating tiki hut excursion out of a few different Massachusetts locations.

What exactly is a floating tiki hut? Well, it’s exactly as it sounds. A small motorized boat (that uses a propeller engine) is simply transformed or decorated into a tiki hut-themed platform. Then a bar is built in the center. The straw tiki hut is then built in its normal umbrella-style layout. A captain hops on board to drive the floating hut while blasting island jams or reggae music. Finally, you need a bartender to serve up appropriately themed drinks.

Sounds fun, but then what? And why?

The latter question has a simple answer. Why not? A floating tiki hut is a unique way to have a fun time with a small group of people while enjoying a nice day out on the Massachusetts waters. As you can see by the places listed below, these excursions can be taken in a bay, lake or even when the ocean is calm.

What do you do when you are on the boat? You relax with your company, have a frozen drink, listen to some music, and mentally transport yourself to the being in the middle of the islands.

While these floating tiki hut bars have become popular attractions in more coastal areas in the south, they have also started to catch on in Massachusetts in the past four years. In addition, there have been a few spinoffs of this theme, like the Friki Tiki in Gloucester, which is a tiki-themed boat cruise. You can typically reserve your adventure for a complete group in advance. And if you are looking for a bachelor or bachelorette party idea, or something different to ring in that big birthday, you can now hop on floating tiki hut.

  • Tiki Hut Boats - Salem

    Tiki Hut Boats set the mood by explaining you will “breathe in ocean air and breathe out your stress” for the duration of your 90-minute excursion. This docks out of Blaney Wharf and cruises around Salem Harbor. It can accommodate up to six guests. Frozen drinks, various beers, wines, and spirits are sold on-board. If you are looking for island-themed specialties, Tiki Hut Boats offers that too. The “Wink and a Smile” (vodka with melon liquor, lime juice, and grapefruit soda) is one of their popular “boat drinks.”

  • The Tipsy Seagull - Fall River

    While you won’t actually sail out on this hut, the Tipsy Seagull offers a floating experience unlike any others in the Bay State. It is located at the entrance of Narragansett Bay at Borden Light Marina. The hut is floating in the water, yet remains stationary. However, you can pull your boat up to the dock at the marina and then hop on the board for your island party. In addition their full bar menu, you can order burgers, pizza, salads and appetizers aboard this floating tiki bar.
