Sam Hunt: How He Changed His Look
Sam Hunt has been a changed man lately, from his new music to his family lifestyle with his wife, Hannah, and two kids. Even his style of dressing on stage has changed from sweatpants and baseball hats to a more dignified style of dress.
He told us in a recent interview, “I think a lot of it is because I have kids. I was telling somebody the other day that I think I’ve come full circle. The way my mom dressed me as a kid coming from the South—it’s just the way adults dress, that’s a big part of it.”
Hunt continued, “Part of it is that early on when I was younger, I wanted to push back on norms and traditions and buck the system a little bit. I think the state of the world now feels more like chaos and less like order that needs to be pushed up against. So I feel the need to order myself more, tuck my shirt in, and dress up.”
Sam concluded, “But part of it is just getting older. I consider myself a country boy. I am from the South, but I’m not the same kind of country that some of my buddies were. I guess I am just finally settling into my roots.”

Hunt is working to heal his “wayward streak.” His song “Locked Up” was inspired by his brush with the law. In 2019, he was arrested in Nashville for a DUI, and since that time, he has worked to get himself straight with the help of his wife, Hannah.
Sam told us, “I think a deep understanding that she and I are together for us to both reach our potential and become the versions of ourselves that we both want to be; we are meant to be together, and through that relationship, we will be able to achieve that, and separate of each other, we fall well short.”
Hunt added that he has struggled in the past, “I certainly have a wayward streak, a wider wayward streak than Hannah does; I don’t know that she has one at all.”
He explained, “Since I was twelve or thirteen or fourteen years old, I’ve been trying to wrestle that part of me into submission and bring it to heal. It has taken a long time, and my relationship with Hannah and God has been an important part of making progress in that department.”
One more thing helped him to change for the better. He told us, “Having kids has been a huge part in that as well. I think having children wisened me up in a way that I don’t think anything else could have.”
