There’s a Northshore hidden gem that if you’re in the area, you don’t want to miss. I had a few hours to kill in Haverhill and happened to find the River Street Cafe. What an incredible surprise!
River St. Cafe – A Northshore Hidden Gem
I recently had a few hours to kill while I was in Haverhill, and was looking for somewhere to have lunch. But I wasn’t just looking for great food, I wanted a comfortable place where I could sit for a while as well. Somewhere to read my book and maybe write in my journal. Somewhere with great vibes.
Well, I happened to find the perfect place when I came across River St. Cafe. Located at 558 River St. in Haverhill, they offer a delicious variety of pizza, paninis, subs, and salads. Plus some really interesting hot and cold beverages. It sounds like your regular pizza place, but it is far from it. It was just the Northshore hidden gem I was looking for.
Behind the River St. Cafe
River St. Cafe opened in 2021 by owners Kelly DiFazio and Brenna Whitley. The two friends graduated from both Amesbury High School and Salem State University together. About creating this Northshore hidden gem, they say, “Since childhood our families have been sharing laughs and meals together …. great memories in our backyards and around our dining room tables. After graduating from Salem State College together, we realized we wanted to create that same warm, inviting environment in our our restaurant … and the River Street Cafe was born. We hope you will enjoy our delicious food and excellent service, whether you are dining here or ordering take-out to enjoy with family and friends.”
What’s On The Menu At River St. Cafe?
So when I walked into the River St. Cafe, I had salad on my mind. But looking at the menu, I was tempted by the pizza selection. It’s one of my favorite foods. I ended up getting the house salad with grilled chicken, and added feta. Sounds basic right? It was anything but. It came with the most delicious Syrian bread. Honestly, this was one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Everything was great quality, fresh, and flavorful. With it, I had a refreshing hibiscus lemonade. SO good!

Vibes at River St. Cafe
As great as the food is, the vibe is just as good. It’s a bright and open space with comfortable tables and chairs. There’s also a cute loft area with comfy chairs, tables, and even some games. It was the perfect place for me to spend a few hours. The next time I’m in the area, I will definitely stop by this Northshore hidden gem, River St. Cafe.
