This Super Useful North Shore Bike Trail Will Connect Cities to Nahant Beach
A North Shore bike trail long in the making is about to make its final push to the sea, granting easier beach access to thousands.
The project is an initiative of a non-profit organization called Bike to the Sea. Founded in 1993, the charity “promotes bicycling and bicycle safety in communities north of Boston, including Melrose, Medford, Everett, Malden, Revere, Saugus, and Lynn.”
Recently, Bike to the Sea has expanded their mission to advocate for shared-use spaces not just for biking, but for many types of outdoor activities. And even more recently, they organized a pretty big groundbreaking ceremony in Lynn.
North Shore Bike Trail Breaks Ground in Lynn
From their Press Release: “For more than 30 years Bike to the Sea has promised to build a trail from Everett, through Malden, Revere, Saugus, and Lynn to the ocean in Nahant and now work will begin this week to finish the last two-mile section from Western Avenue in Lynn to Nahant Beach.”
The ceremony took place on July 11 on the Carroll Parkway in Lynn. Currently, the Northern Strand Community Trail ends at Western Ave., a mile from downtown Lynn. The plan is to extend through downtown Lynn to state-owned Nahant Beach parkland.
North Shore Bike Trail: What Else to Know
When finished, it will be possible to travel–on bike or on foot–from the Encore Casino on the Mystic River Waterfront in Everett all the way to Nahant Beach. The access provided to residents along the trail will be unprecedented.
