Photo Provided by Rebecca James MahotaRebecca James Mahota tried her hardest to get to the hospital in time, but the world had a different plan for her and she gave birth on the side of the road on Route 6. Everyone always says that a woman's second baby comes quicker, but no one could have imagined that hers could arrive that fast.
Rebecca James Mahota owns her own lash and beauty shop on Cape Cod in North Chatham, It's called RJ's Beauty. She specializes in lash extensions, lash lift and tints, and spray tans. I have been to her last studio, and we met back in 2017 at the Kenny Chesney Concert. She was hired as a model by Kenny's liquor company, Blue Chair Bay. We quickly hit it off and I have made the trip to Chatham to get my lashes done a few times.
Baby Arrived On Route 6
According to a post on Rebecca's Instagram page, on the side of Route 6 somewhere near exit five, Summer James Mahota was delivered by mom and dad in the passenger seat of her Land Rover. It happened on Thursday, August 8th. Rebecca's husband, Dayna Mahota, drove as fast as he could. He attempted to weave in and out of slow summer Cape Cod traffic. But even the emergency hazards, flickering of the headlights, and beeping didn't get the parents to the hospital in time.
Twenty-six minutes into Rebecca's contractions, her water broke. She took off her shorts and supported her baby's head as Dayna safely pulled over. Rebecca wrote about the delivery, "He ran around the truck to catch my feet on his shoulders and with grace and impressive technique we worked beautifully as a team to deliver her in about two and a half minutes. My mother had knit her a little quilt, we used to wipe her down, clear her umbilical cord and continue on driving to meet the ambulance in the dunks parking lot over the sagamore."
The Baby Is Completely Healthy
Rebecca, Dayna and new baby, Summer, rode to Beth Israel hospital to finish the birth. The midwives took great care of the new baby and mother. A few hours later, Rebecca's older daughter, Kendall arrived at the hospital to meet her new sister.
Rebecca ends her Instagram post with, "And, my devotion, respect, appreciation and love has never been stronger, which I didn’t think was even possible, for my incredible husband. Honestly, absolute dream team, thank you life for blessing us with this man, this experience, and this beautiful life we’ve created."

How Common Is It To Give Birth On The Side Of The Road?
Most births that occur in the United States take place in a hospital. In fact, that number is an impressive 98.5%. But taking place in a car? That number is fewer than 8 in every 10,000 births. Giving birth in a car is not the preferred way to do it, but sometimes when those contractions happen, it's hard to say when and where the baby will eventually come into the world.
7 Places To Visit On Cape Cod To Feel SUPER Fancy
If you want to feel fancy on Cape Cod, here are some great places to dress up, spend a little bit more money than usual, and feel totally bougie while doing it.
Cape Cod has golden beaches and a rich maritime history. It's no surprise that this Massachusetts haven has become a sought-after vacation destination for many. But for those with a penchant for the finer things in life, Cape Cod offers some truly luxurious experiences. Whether you’re hoping to dine in opulence, sip cocktails in style, or shop in the chicest of boutiques, Cape Cod has it all!
History Of Cape Cod
From the early 20th century, Cape Cod transformed from a simple maritime and farming community to a hub for the American elite. Celebrities, politicians, and industrial magnates started flocking to its shores. Of course they began building summer cottages that would make any architectural digest cover. (Think of the Kennedy Compound!) This influx of affluence painted Cape Cod with a brush of opulence, a legacy that endures to this day.
Fast forward to the present, and Cape Cod remains a haven for those seeking a touch of extravagance. Strolling through the quaint villages, you can't help but feel the historic allure that makes it a beloved vacation spot. The region’s cobblestone streets whisper tales of old money. The pristine beaches echo with laughter from glamorous 1920s beach parties.
Why Feeling Fancy Is Fun On Cape Cod
Sometimes, it's worth loosening the purse strings a little to elevate the Cape Cod experience. Dine at an upscale restaurant where gourmet dishes are served with panoramic ocean views. Or perhaps enjoy a cocktail at an elite bar. The sheer joy of dressing up, stepping out, and feeling fancy for the evening is an experience in itself.

My husband and I love going to the Cape. Ordering oysters makes us feel fancy, but luckily there are some places on the Cape that have Happy Hour Oyster specials! (This photo was taken when I was very pregnant so I ordered oysters Rockefeller).
To vacation on Cape Cod is to be part of a tradition—a tradition of seeking the best, of appreciating beauty, and of indulging in life's finer pleasures. It's a reminder that sometimes, it's more than okay to be bougie, to celebrate life’s little luxuries, and to revel in the rich tapestry of experiences that this magnificent peninsula offers.
So, the next time you're planning a trip, remember that Cape Cod awaits, ready to wrap you in its luxurious embrace. And trust me, it's worth every penny.
