The Great American Beer Hall Now Open in Medford, Mass.
The Great American Beer Hall, a massive 17,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor space with a dog-friendly patio, is now open in Medford, Mass.
Per Boston.com, the first floor of the facility and the outdoor patio can seat nearly 600 patrons. The second floor with a roof deck has yet to open, but that space can hold an additional 400 patrons.
Mark Zarthar, one of six co-owners, told the outlet, “We sort of view the space as a multi-purpose, jack-of-all-trades type space — like an adult playground, you could call it.” Mark’s brother and fellow co-owner Brian Zarthar added, “There’s definitely a void in the market for entertainment in Medford, where a lot of residents in Medford would have to go to Somerville, Everett, or Boston. People are excited they get to stay in Medford now.”
The Great American Beer Hall features 30 different beers on draft, which highlight various local craft breweries. Currently, their website shows 16 different canned beer offerings, including non-alcoholic choices, and a selection of seltzer and wine. If cocktails are more your style, there’s a full bar on the premises, too.
There’s plenty to bring you to The Great American Beer Hall, including two giant screens perfect for any sporting event, a fire pit on the outdoor patio, cornhole boards and a stage inside on the first floor for live music.
Naturally, food is a must for a place like this. NBC Boston reports food trucks will regularly be available for hungry customers, but there’s also The Lantern, The Great American Beer Hall’s in-house restaurant operated by Executive Chef Nick Dowling. According to The Lantern’s website, “The eatery pays homage to Medford’s historic roots through a rustic yet modern design, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and contemporary. Whether you’re a local resident or visiting the area, The Lantern offers a memorable dining experience that blends tradition with innovation. “
The bulk of the menu at The Lantern is made up of pizza, from classic Pepperoni to more unique fare, like the Split Pea, Crab & Speck pizza. That pie features Chesapeake blue crab, garden pea puree, torn fresh mozzarella, smoky speck, toasted garlic and cherry tomatoes. (Excuse us while we wipe the drool off of our chin!)
Since opening on Aug. 31, The Great American Beer Hall has already received a bunch of great reviews on Google. One person wrote, “Visited on opening day, and the place was packed! It’s clear that this beer hall was exactly what the neighborhood needed. The space is large and open, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Even with the crowd, the far wall lined with bars ensured that getting a drink was quick and easy. The pizza here is incredible—some of the best crust I’ve had in the area. I came with a group of friends and kids, and it was super family-friendly, with communal games to keep the little ones entertained. I’m thrilled to have this addition to the area and can’t wait to catch a game and enjoy fall nights by one of the fire pits!”
The Great American Beer Hall is located on 142 Mystic Ave. It’s hours are Thursday-Saturday 12 PM-1 AM and Sunday-Wednesday 12 PM-11 PM.
