Save Big: Pre-Holiday Deals from Major Retailers
We love deals! Are you thinking about holiday shopping yet? If you want to save money and get a jump on knocking some things off your gift-giving list, this is the week to make it happen. A bunch of big-name stores kick off their pre-holiday sales events this week. That means lots of deals and lots of discounts.
Major retailers count on this time of year. Black Friday used to be the major sale day of the year. Stores like Amazon, Target, and Kohls now count on sales leading up to the holiday rush to help their bottom line. And many shoppers appreciate the chance to save big so they can give big.

Here are the pre-holiday sales, according to USA Today, that you can take advantage of this week.
Target
Target Circle Week – Monday, October 7th through Saturday, October 12th.
- You need to be a member of Target Circle, their free loyalty program, to take advantage of the sale.
- Save on clothing, bedding, bath, home appliances and more!
- Target Circle Week also includes up to 50% off select kitchen items from Cuisinart and Instant Pot, and members who spend $40 on toys can get $10 off, or spend $75 on toys and get $20 off.
Kohl’s
Kohl’s 3 Days of Deals – Monday, October 7th through Wednesday, October 9th.
- Anyone can score discounts and daily deals on toys, tech, kitchen appliances, decor, shoes, clothing and baby items.
- Kohl’s Rewards loyalty program members also get $10 off every $50 spent on home products and $10 off $50 or $20 off $100 spent on toys, puzzles and games.
- If you can’t get in the story, you can take advantage of 25% off items on Kohls.com.
Amazon
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days – Tuesday, October 8th and Wednesday, October 9th
- To get in on the savings here, you have to be a member of Amazon Prime, but there’s a free 30-day trial you can use.
- This sales event offers bargains on everything from clothing to toys, and deals on popular brands like Barbie, Disney, Dyson, Lego and Clinique.
- The sale also includes Amazon exclusive items from Beats, Casper, and Conair.
Walmart
Walmart Holiday Deals – October 8th to October 13th
- USA Today says save $300 on a refrigerator, $100 off on a gaming laptop and score deals on everything from toys to home decor to apparel.
- Members of the Walmart+ subscription service get early access to the sale at 12 a.m. Tuesday, while in-person shoppers can access the sales when stores open on Wednesday, October 9th.
Costco
Costco membership costs have gone up so, according to USA Today, the box store’s prices will go down. The items you can save on will not make great holiday gifts, but anytime you save it’s a good day. Costco is offering select deals on its signature Kirklands products.

I’ve learned to compartmentalize my issues so I tackle just one at a time. It helps me from becoming overwhelmed. Helps. And I can use all the help I can get. (Like these great items every mom needs for back to school!)
One thing that used to really give me anxiety is packing my kids’ lunch. When my daughter was in kindergarten, she wouldn’t eat a sandwich. (I mean, really? No peanut butter and jelly, no turkey and cheese, not even grilled cheese!) That was a challenge I tackled, and feel I won. Both she and my son were known for their fun little “bento box” lunches that included kabobs and deconstructed sandwiches.
You do what you have to do.
Thank GOD for the internet. I was on every mom blog, Instagram, and TikTok I could find to figure out how to be creative with healthy foods for the kids. Okay, relatively healthy foods. They are kids. My goal was to get a fruit and or vegetable in them at lunch. I knew the carbohydrates and proteins would be a little easier.
Don’t break the bank.
But here’s the thing. You know as well as I do that eating healthy foods that are fun and enticing to kids can be easy if you’re willing to pay an arm and a leg for them. It’s a real shame that junk food is so much more accessible and more cost-effective than real food. But our kids have enough hurdles to overcome, especially at the beginning of the school year. So, let’s take this one for them.

And getting creative with your kids’ school lunches doesn’t have to take up all your time and energy, either. Don’t reinvent the wheel. There are others who came before you (who somehow have time to create snazzy social media posts) who really want to help. Use their ideas and let’s do what’s best for our kids.
