The Story From Las Vegas Metro
On Thanksgiving, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared the story of one of their officers who turned a dramatic dog rescue into a happy ending when he adopted the pup he saved from a dangerously hot car.
This summer, Officer Kevin Borja was informed by a tourist of a dog confined to a locked car with no water during 112-degree heat. Hearing its cries for help, the officer and his partner broke the car’s window and rescued the cocker spaniel puppy, giving it water, which he quickly drank up.
Borja felt an immediate connection with the dog and continued to check on his status every day after taking him to a shelter. When it came time for the pup to get adopted, Borja and his wife were first in line and brought the dog, who they’ve named Theodore, home to be a part of their family.
Las Vegas Metro Viral Video
The caption of the video from the official Las Vegas Metro Police Department Facebook page reads as followed.
“Back in June, on a blistering 110-degree plus day, Ofc. Borja was flagged down near 3rd Street and Carson for a heartbreaking situation: a puppy locked inside a sweltering vehicle. Acting quickly, Ofc. Borja and his partner saved the pup, who was in distress from the extreme heat.
But the story doesn’t end there. As you’ll see in the video, the connection between Ofc. Borja and the puppy was instant. That day, he began the process to adopt the dog—and now Theodore is thriving with his new, loving family.
The individual responsible was located, arrested, and charged with a felony.
This story reminds us all: kindness and swift action can change lives.”
