Flour Bakery to Replace Earl of Sandwich at Boston Common in Spring 2025
Flour Bakery co-owner Joanne Chang will bring her beloved baked goods to Boston Common beginning next spring. The bakery will open a new location in the Boston Common Concession Pavilion that the Earl of Sandwich previously occupied. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Parks and Recreation Commission made the announcement on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The selection of Flour Bakery followed a competitive Request for Proposals process, which sought a vendor who could provide high-quality food and beverage service at the Boston Common site. Renovations to the concession pavilion will take place over the winter.
“Flour Bakery will be a great fit for this treasured space in our country’s oldest public park, the Boston Common,” said Wu in a news release. “As we continue investing in a vibrant Downtown, we’re thrilled to see local businesses creating new opportunities at the forefront.”
“Flour Bakery’s commitment to quality, community, and creativity makes them the perfect addition to this historic space,” said Interim Parks Commissioner Liza Meyer. “Both everyday park-goers and out-of-town visitors will enjoy being able to stop by Flour for food or a beverage, which in turn will help activate the Common for the benefit of all park users.”
Flour Bakery, a women- and minority-owned business, first opened in Boston’s South End in 2000. The new Boston Common site will be Flour Bakery’s 10th location in the Boston area for Chang, a James Beard Award-winning pastry chef. “We look forward to making Boston Common a sweeter place this spring with our beloved Flour pastries, salads, and sandwiches, as well as new treats exclusive to this location,” she said.
