There’s Still Time to Catch the Trains at Boston’s Museum of Science
Although the holiday season may be coming to a close, there’s still time to catch the seasonal exhibit “All Aboard! Trains at Science Park” at Boston’s Museum of Science through Jan. 20, 2025.
The exhibition features powered model trains of various scales making their way through elaborately crafted scenes. Individuals like model railroad maker John Goodson of “Mandalorian” fame have crafted hundreds of extraordinary details in the exhibition, from miniature trees to familiar Boston landmarks like the Custom House and the Zakim Bridge.
New this year, floor-to-ceiling projections surround visitors in a winter wonderland filled with model train displays. Hands-on activities will accompany the exhibition, including opportunities to conduct a train symphony and drive a virtual train through a snow-covered mountain setting. Even the kids can get involved by taking the controls of a child-sized locomotive.
“’All Aboard! Trains at Science Park’ has become a cherished holiday tradition for our guests,” said Tim Porter, the museum’s senior vice president of exhibits, research, and collections, in a news release. “This year, we’ve pulled out all the stops to create a magical experience that celebrates the joy of the season through complex train models and interactive activities to delight our visitors of all ages.”
Museum visitors can also see the film “Train Time” at the Mugar Omni Theater and experience “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D.” Tickets are required for these film presentations.
The “All Aboard! Trains at Science Park” exhibit is available with admission to the museum’s exhibition halls. Visit the museum’s website to purchase tickets, or call 617-723-2500. The Museum of Science is at 1 Science Park in Boston.
