Ski Lift Chair Falls 20 Feet at Attitash Mountain, Injuring One Person
A chair on a ski lift came crashing down Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Attitash Mountain Resort in New Hampshire. The frightening incident left one person hurt and needing medical care.
The Flying Bear lift broke down at 12:15 p.m., causing a chair to drop to the ground. A 49-year-old man hurt his back in the fall, but stayed awake and could still move his arms and legs.
“We can confirm an incident occurred on our Flying Bear chairlift today, Sunday, February 2, 2025. The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we are investigating the incident,” said Brandon Swartz to LiftBlog.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office found that mechanical problems caused the incident. The lift’s maker, Doppelmayr, is helping look into what went wrong.
Workers helped all other riders get down safely from the four-person lift. They stopped the lift right after the accident happened, and it will stay closed while they figure out what happened.
The lift, built in 1995, uses DT model grips to hold the chairs onto the cable. Just before this happened, the resort had been looking to hire lift maintenance workers.
This adds to the recent troubles for Vail Resorts. Another accident at Heavenly ski area on December 23 sent five people to the hospital when two chairs hit each other.
Anyone who saw what happened should call the Fire Marshal’s Office at (603) 223-4289 or email details to fmo@dos.nh.gov.
