Netflix Set to Debut Red Sox Docuseries on April 8
Netflix is set to release a new docuseries on one of the most revered sports franchises in history: the Boston Red Sox. Titled “The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox,” the eight-episode series debuts on April 8 and is one of two Red Sox-focused projects produced by Netflix.
“The Clubhouse” showcases the Red Sox’s challenges and successes. It is the first time Netflix has followed a Major League Baseball team through an entire season, offering a unique perspective on the sport.
“The Comeback,” now streaming on Netflix, explores the story of one of the greatest comebacks in sports history — the team’s first World Series victory after a nearly nine-decade-long struggle.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Greg Whiteley — whose credits include “Cheer” and “Last Chance U” — “The Clubhouse” strives to help viewers understand the immense pressures that professional athletes face. “What’s true about Major League Baseball that is also true about junior college, football, basketball and competitive cheer is that the sport is merely an access point,” Whiteley explained in an interview with Variety. “It’s just the framework we use to try to capture the most personal, complex, and human portraits.”
A new teaser trailer released in advance of the docuseries’ debut sets the tone for the series.
“I’ve dedicated my life to this game,” Casas says in a voiceover as he prepares to take his turn at the bat. “It’s tough when you go up there because you’re vulnerable. You can do everything right and still have a bad result. It’s a bad feeling when you feel like you’re the reason why you’re losing. But you know, the life away from the field can’t be affected by the results on it.”
“The Clubhouse” is produced by One Potato Productions, Boardwalk Pictures Inc., and Major League Baseball.
