Boston’s Free Family Days Expand to Include Performing Arts Venues
Boston school-aged children and their families will now be able to attend performances for free at seven major dance, music, and theater organizations courtesy of an expansion of the Boston Family Days initiative.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced the inclusion of performing arts experiences into the Boston Family Days fold on Wednesday, March 19, at the State of the City address.
“Delivering an excellent education for every Boston student means making the entire city their classroom,” Wu said in a prepared statement shared with the Boston Globe. “Boston’s world-class arts and cultural institutions are pillars of Boston’s vibrant community and economy, and I’m so grateful for their partnership to show our young people the world.”
The performing arts organizations include the following:
- ArtsEmerson, a presenting and producing organization that operates under Emerson College
- Boch Center
- Boston Ballet
- Boston Lyric Opera
- Boston Symphony Orchestra
- The Huntington (formerly the Huntington Theatre Company)
- Wheelock Family Theatre at Boston University
In addition to the performing arts experiences above, starting in April, every Boston school student enrolled in grades K-12 or Boston Pre-K will receive free admission, along with up to two guests, to three new historical museums: the Paul Revere House, Old North Illuminated, and the USS Constitution Museum. Revolutionary Spaces, which operates the Old State House and Old South Meeting House, will join the program later in the spring.
The release further notes that more than 50,000 Boston students and their guests have enjoyed free visits through Boston Family Days so far.
