JetBlue Delays Summer Flights Schedule at Martha’s Vineyard Airport
JetBlue announced a delay in the start of its summer flight schedule at Martha’s Vineyard Airport.
The largest seasonal airline provider at the airport said it will not start its summer flight schedule until June. Flights to Washington, D.C., will begin on June 12, and flights to New York will start on June 26.
Geoff Freeman, the airport’s manager, confirmed with the Vineyard Gazette that the schedule starts approximately a month later than usual. According to airport statistics, JetBlue carried more than 32,000 passengers to and from Martha’s Vineyard last year during its May through October flight schedule. That’s more than Delta, at 17,379 passengers, and American Airlines, at 14,364 passengers.
While JetBlue is reducing the total number of flights this year, it will be bringing a new, larger airplane to accommodate more passengers. The traditional 100-passenger plane is being replaced by an enhanced 140-passenger aircraft.
JetBlue will fly to Martha’s Vineyard from JFK International in New York and Boston, in addition to Washington, D.C. The schedule will run through the end of October.
Freeman noted the airport does not get involved with the airlines’ scheduling decisions. He said that flight schedules can change from year to year, depending on passenger demand, flight crew staffing, and other factors.
