Ed Sheeran to Open Pop-Up Pub in Ipswich
Grammy-award-winning singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran is debuting a new pop-up pub in Ipswich on Friday, March 28.
During his guest appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday, March 26, Sheeran confirmed that he is creating a fully operating pub — the Old Phone Pub — complete with True North Ale and Guinness on offer. It will stand for two days against the backdrop of the “Old Phone” music video, a new single that will appear on his upcoming album “Play.”
“You know what’s interesting about this pub, it’ll stand for two days,” Sheeran said in the interview. “The music video is basically the build of the pub with everyone locally, and then to get entry to it, you have to go on your old phone and find an old message that means a lot to you or a video that means a lot to you and send it in, and then afterwards we’re going to project them on the wall. It’s gonna be cool. We’re serving like Guinness and like tater tots and [expletive]. It’s gonna be so cool.”
“‘Old Phone’ is a journey through memories — a bittersweet look at past connections, lost friends, and the echo of moments captured in old messages and photos,” according to the pub’s website.
A Northshore magazine article noted that the town of Ipswich’s select board approved a one-day wine and malt application and a weekday entertainment license for Friday, March 28, at the Old Mill building.
