Food & Wine recently conducted a taste test of 13 potato chip brands, and a New England company earned top honors in the snack foods showdown.

Food & Wine's taste test included two rounds focusing on "original" and "sea salt" flavors. Testers evaluated chip snap, durability, and flavor profile. In the end, Cape Cod Original Sea Salt Kettle Cooked Chips were praised for their crispness, buttery flavor, and natural potato taste.

Other notable winners in the Food & Wine taste test included Trader Joe's Ode to the Classic Potato Chip, Ruffles Original, Siete Sea Salt Kettle Cooked Chips, and Boulder Canyon Olive Oil Classic Sea Salt.

About Cape Cod Potato Chips

Founded in 1980 in Hyannis, Massachusetts, by Steve Bernard and his brother Jude, Cape Cod Potato Chips has focused on kettle-cooked chips that "tasted closer to real food than factory fare," according to a report by the Daily Voice Saratoga Springs

"The chips are cooked in small batches using kettle-style fryers, which produce a thicker, crispier texture than the continuous-belt method used by many large snack makers," noted the Daily Voice.

Over the years, Cape Cod has become an East Coast staple and was acquired by major corporations, including Anheuser-Busch in 1985, Snyder's-Lance in 1999, and Campbell Soup Company in 2018.

Cape Cod's iconic lighthouse logo, inspired by Nauset Light in Eastham, Massachusetts, remains a recognizable symbol on the company's bags sold on America's snack food shelves.
