Trader Joe's is opening a new store in West Roxbury, at 1999 Centre St., on Thursday, Oct. 30. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8:55 a.m. “to welcome customers to their new neighborhood store,” the store said in a statement.

This opening marks the fourth Trader Joe's location in Boston, joining two stores on Boylston Street in Back Bay and one on Thomson Place in the Seaport. The new store is set to occupy a former Walgreens property that closed in November 2024, according to UniversalHub.

According to a Boston.com report, more than 80 employees have been hired locally or transferred from other Trader Joe's stores to staff the new location.

“Through the company's longstanding neighborhood shares program, the new West Roxbury Trader Joe's will donate 100% of products that go unsold to a range of nonprofit, community-based organizations, seven days a week,” the store said in a media statement.

According to a MassLive report, Trader Joe's announced in July that it would open 30 new stores around the country. Two will be open in Massachusetts, including the West Roxbury location. The other store will be at 165 Needham St. in Newton, the second Trader Joe's in the city.
