Wonder Restaurant Group is expanding its fast-fine food hall concept to Newton, Massachusetts, taking over the former Vitamin Shoppe space at 170 Needham St. The news was announced in a post in the Newton Real Estate Forum Facebook group.
According to a What Now Boston report, the Newton location is part of a broader Massachusetts expansion for Wonder Restaurant Group that includes Acton, Belmont, Burlington, Framingham, and Natick.
While the opening for the Newton location hasn't been announced, Wonder's Massachusetts hubs are expected to debut in Belmont, Framingham, and Natick in February 2026, and in Acton in March 2026. Its location in Burlington is also planned for opening sometime early next year.
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in New York City, Wonder Restaurant Group uses technology to create delivery-focused “food halls.” According to What Now Boston, each Wonder food hall supports a lineup of virtual restaurants featuring menus from well-known chefs and establishments across various cuisines.
In 2024, Wonder Restaurant Group made the news when it acquired Grubhub and Seamless. This move created a food delivery “super app” combining Wonder's kitchens with Grubhub's more than 375,000 restaurant partners. This development, however, is only the beginning for the company. What Now Boston noted that Wonder is developing AI technology to tailor meal recommendations to guests based on personal tastes, health goals, and biometric data.
Wonder, which already operates more than 80 locations in the Northeast, has ambitious plans for numerous additional openings in the near future.
