Nova Scotia's alternative-pop singer-songwriter Maggie Andrew is one of several entertainers scheduled to perform for the 84th annual Boston Common Tree Lighting celebration on Thursday, Dec. 4. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Boston Common, adjacent to the Visitor Information Center at 139 Tremont St.
According to a City of Boston news release, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will be joined by Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, marking the 54th year that Nova Scotia has given a tree to the people of Boston as an expression of gratitude for relief efforts from the Boston community following the Dec. 6, 1917, explosion of a munitions ship in Halifax Harbor.
According to her website, Andrew has become a pop culture phenom over the past several years. The Nova Scotian songwriter and producer has collaborated with Florida musician blackbear on hits such as “Sleep 4Ever” (2021), won CBC Music's Searchlight competition, and achieved stardom with her multi-award-winning Day Job (2024). Her latest album, How to Sing for Money (2025), blends the richness of life experiences with her unmistakable musicality.
