The Healey-Driscoll administration announced on Monday, Dec. 8, that it is distributing $7 million in nonrefundable tax credits to 28 theater productions across the state. The credits consist of allocations of 35% to payroll costs, 25% to production and performance costs, and 25% to transportation costs.
The Worcester Center for the Performing Arts is one of these funding recipients. It received support for its holiday production of A Christmas Carol, which runs from Dec. 17 to 28 at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester.
“Live theater is a catalyst for creativity and community,” Healey said in a statement shared with the Patch of Worcester. “It fuels our downtowns, inspires our residents, and draws visitors from around the world. By investing in the people and places that bring stories to life, this new tax credit program positions Massachusetts as a national leader in live performance, a state where imagination drives opportunity and culture powers our economy.”
