Playoff tickets for the New England Patriots' AFC Wild Card matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Jan. 11, are trending lower as kickoff approaches.
CBS Boston WBZ-TV reported on Monday, Jan. 5, that the cheapest ticket is coming in around $235. By Wednesday, Jan. 7, the least expensive ticket on Ace Ticket was $200, Ticketmaster at $177, and StubHub at $183.
According to the report, dynamic pricing drives ticket costs. Platforms like StubHub adjust ticket prices based on supply and demand. When teams clinch a playoff spot, prices tend to spike and then drop over the next 24 to 48 hours.
WBZ spoke with Peter Percuoco, a season ticket holder since 1993. "Back then, tickets were easy to get. It was Schaefer Stadium; it was $300 a seat," said Percuoco. The Patriots' diehard was also present during the "Snow Bowl," when Adam Vinatieri kicked the game-winning goal in the snow against Oakland.
Officials warn that prices could remain volatile through kickoff, and there's no guarantee of a decline. Buyers should act when they find a price they're comfortable with paying.
