The Boston Symphony Orchestra is commemorating Symphony Hall's 125th anniversary this year by taking a look back at the music and memories that define this historic building.

A 1900 article described Symphony Hall as "Boston's new temple of music." Its superb interior acoustics have been regarded as some of the best in the world.

"This hall's got the clarity so you can play fast. It's got the warmth so you can play slow," said Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) cellist Owen Young in a statement shared with NewsCenter 5 Boston

BSO President and CEO Chad Smith has done extensive research on the history of Symphony Hall and the BSO. His work has contributed to a new exhibit installation featuring artists, community leaders, and partners who have shaped the growth of the BSO. The exhibit includes a spotlight on Seiji Ozawa, who led the BSO for 29 years and is remembered as a force who propelled the orchestra to new heights. Ozawa passed away in 2024.
