Boston City Hall Plaza will transform into a soccer-loving hub next summer when it hosts the official FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Festival—a 16‑day celebration bringing the excitement of the world’s biggest sporting event straight to the heart of downtown.

The free festival, scheduled to coincide with the tournament’s matches from mid‑June through early July, will offer live game screenings, food from local vendors, concerts, and family‑friendly activities. Organizers say it will be a space where residents and visitors alike can soak up the global energy of the World Cup without needing a ticket.

Governor Maura Healey and Mayor Michelle Wu announced the plans earlier this week, emphasizing how the event will bring communities together while showcasing Boston’s passion for sports and culture. “There’s no greater sports town in all of America than Boston,” Healey said, calling the World Cup “a celebration of people from all over the world.”

The festival will run alongside seven official World Cup matches hosted at Gillette Stadium—renamed “Boston Stadium” for the tournament—including five group‑stage games, a Round of 32, and a quarterfinal on July 9. Organizers expect more than two million visitors to arrive in Massachusetts for the global spectacle, generating about $1 billion in economic impact and supporting around 9,000 local jobs, according to the Boston 26 Host Committee.

City Hall Plaza’s central location made it an ideal choice for the fan zone, which will feature large video screens for match broadcasts, interactive soccer zones, entertainment, and opportunities to experience cultures from around the world. Boston officials said events will also extend into multiple neighborhoods, creating what Mayor Wu described as “many large community celebrations” throughout the city.

The Boston 26 Host Committee says the festival is part of a broader initiative to unite the city under the banner “We Are Boston. We Are 26.” Its goal is not only to celebrate the tournament but to highlight Boston’s hospitality, local businesses, and community spirit to millions of international visitors and TV viewers around the globe.

Whether you’re a lifelong soccer fan or someone eager to join the excitement, the Boston World Cup Fan Festival promises to turn City Hall Plaza into one of the most energetic spots in New England next summer. More details and schedules will be announced on BostonFWC26.com as the tournament approaches.
