A watch party for the launch of Artemis II at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord, New Hampshire, brought together a crowd to celebrate the new lunar mission.

For participants, the event was a milestone to remember.

"It was really cool," Jason Houdagba said. His older brother reflected on the occasion. "It was like I'm part of history, like a once-in-a-lifetime moment," he said in a statement shared with CBS Boston WBZ-TV.

Kathleen Gora told WBZ she wanted her daughter to experience the watch party because of the mission's significance and its history-making elements.

"You hear things when my parents were growing up, and now, she's going to be able to see history being made and tell her kids and her grandkids how she watched this," Gora explained.

Artemis II is the opening segment of a 10-day mission that will take four NASA astronauts beyond the moon, marking NASA's return to lunar exploration since 1972.

As she watched the launch with her daughter, Thia, Pooja Khatri of Concord said she hopes opportunities like this will motivate the next generation of dreamers to reach for the stars.

"I wanted Thia to see that the possibilities are literally endless," she told WBZ.
