‘Tis the season to tip back a few. Responsibly. Let’s see what the most popular Christmas drinks are in the six New England states.

Christmas cocktails are all the rage, and it doesn’t matter if you celebrate Christmas or not. They’re fun, they’re festive, and there’s a bunch of them over on our Wicked Holiday Guide. You’ll find a bevy of bevvy recipes, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, alongside a ton of other holiday drinks and tips and tricks. Apparently cookie shot glasses are all the rage this season. Might have to pick up a few.

On that note, Tasting Table has compiled their list of The Most Popular Christmas Drink In Your State. They went state-by-state to determine the holiday season’s most beloved beverage in each one. Overall, the “it” drink of the 2023 Christmas season is the poinsettia cocktail. The libation topped the list in twelve of the fifty states, and two of those twelve states are here in New England.

New England’s Most Popular Christmas Drinks

A few notes from Tasting Table on their methodology: “We started by rounding up the top 15 most-searched-for-Christmas drinks across the whole country. Then, in order to determine each state’s drink of choice among the nationwide favorites, we used Google Trends to find out which beverages had the highest increase in search traffic over the last month.” That’s as of December 6, 2023.

They also note that no cocktails were consumed during the making of the report. To that I say: booooo! What kind of Scrooge compiles a list of holiday tipples without tipping one or two back? I’m kidding, of course. Get the Christmas faves in all fifty states here. Below, I’ll take you through New England’s festive choices. A reminder, too: please drink responsibly this holiday season and designate a driver. Happy Holidays! Cheers!

  • Connecticut

Coquito – A creamy combination of coconut and rum topped with cinnamon and nutmeg. A tropical twist on egg nog.

  • Maine

Poinsettia Cocktail – The definitive beverage of Christmas 2023. I’m surprised it beat Fat Ass in a Glass in Maine!

  • Massachusetts

Christmas Sangria – It’s Sangria, but festive! That’s the beauty of Sangria: it’s so versatile. You can put any kind of holiday spin on it.

  • New Hampshire

Poinsettia Cocktail – Like their Pine Tree State neighbors, Granite Staters are quaffing these this Christmas. And with only three ingredients–Champagne, Cointreau, and cranberry juice–it’s easy to see why.

  • Rhode Island

Chocolate Martini – Little Rhody is going all in with the big flavors this holiday season. Cheers!

  • Vermont

Eggnog – The Green Mountain State saving the day. If Eggnog didn’t make this New England Christmas cocktail list, I would have been disappointed.
