Every year when my birthday rolls around (February 27), many people remark, “you were almost a leap year baby!” It must be cool, but a little weird to be born on a date that only occurs every four years. It got me to thinking about what famous people celebrate birthdays on leap years. With that, I give you…6 notable celebrities who were born on Leap Day.

Below you will find a very interesting collection of celebs. These are stars from the world of acting, music and comics. Yup, comics, but not as in comedians. I’m talking comic books. Do you know anyone born on Leap Day?

I scoured the net and landed on the publication Town and Country to help find famous faces who celebrate this unique birthday. There were quite a few more names on their list than mine, but I found these 6 to likely be more recognized. You’ll find a public speaker, a rapper, a pop- rocker, a superhero, tv and movie actors in this collection of stars.

History of Leap Year

According to Time and Date, Leap Day was first introduced over 2000 years ago by Julius Caesar. It’s a date filled with “folklore and superstitions.” What are some of the traditions of this special day? As explained in the article, it’s believed to be an old Irish legend that stemmed from St Bridgid. Apparently, she asked St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men every 4 years. As opposed to the traditional method of men asking women. Since then it’s become a day of women popping the question. Who knew?

In “regular” calendar years, leap day birthdays are generally celebrated on either February 28 or March 1. Did you know leap year babies are known as “Leaplings?” So, let’s raise a glass today to all the Leaplings. Cheers and happy birthday.   • Dinah Shore

    Born: 1916

    For those who don’t know, Dinah was a hugely popular actress, singer and TV personality and host. According to Brittania, she first sang with Frank Sinatra and then went on to record  and release 75 hits between 1940 and 1955. Then she became a TV star, debuting The Dinah Shore Show (a variety talk show) In 1951. “She followed this with The Dinah Shore Chevy Show (1956–63), on which she established the jingle “See the USA in Your Chevrolet” as her trademark along with a signature sign-off kiss for the audience.”

    Dinah Shore was an American singer, actress, and television personality, and the chart-topping female vocalist of the 1940s. She rose to prominence as a recording artist during the Big Band era. She achieved even greater success a decade later in television, mainly as the host of a series of variety programs for the Chevrolet automobile company.

  • Tony Robbins

    Born: 1960

    Tony Robbins is a name you’ve likely heard or a face you’ve likely seen on TV. He’s an international motivational speaker and life coach. His website bio describes him as ”  an entrepreneur, #1 NY Times bestselling author, philanthropist, and the nation’s #1 life & business strategist. He has empowered more than 50 million people from 100 countries around the world through his audio programs, educational videos, and live seminars.”

  • Ja Rule

    Born: 1976

    According to IMDB, rapper, songwriter, singer, and actor Jeffrey Bruce Atkins is much more well known by his stage name, Ja Rule. Most of us know him from his hit collaborations with Jennifer Lopez, “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.” He was born in New York City and made his musical debut in 199 with Venni Vetti Vecci and its lead single “Holla Holla”. He’s been in a bunch of TV shows and movies, including 2004’s Shall We Dance and 2013’s Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn. 

     

  • Peter Scanavino

    Born: 1980

    Actor Peter Scanavino is currently playing on TV. See him every week starring as He currently stars as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr in the long-time running legal drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on NBC. And according to IMDB he’s also starred in a bunch of other TV & film projects, like: “Social Distance (NETFLIX), The Cold Lands, Mutual Friends, The Leftovers (HBO), Banshee (CINEMAX), and The Good Wife (CBS).”

  • 5. Mark Foster

    Born: 1984

    Mark Foster is the lead singer of the band Foster the People. The pop-rock band is best known for 2010’s  “Pumped Up Kicks” and 2017’s “Sit Next to Me.” Fun fact, Mark started out as a commercial jingle writer for the record label Mophonics in 2008. According to PEOPLE, He wrote popular jingles for the cereal Honey Bunches of Oats and Verizon. And even juicier tidbit is that he is married to award winning actress Julia Garner from Netflix’s popular show Ozark, along side Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. 

  • 6. Superman

    Ok, so he’s not a real person with an actual birthday, he is a celebrity! And according to Standard UK, Superman is believe to have been born on a leap year. They confirmed it with the DC Comics calendar (although he has also celebrated June 10 as Earth Day, the day he first came to Earth.) So, for those born on Leap Day, in whatever year, consider yourself super-human. Or just super.
