New England Destination: A Summer Place That’s On The Rise
With Memorial Day upon us it’s time for vacation planning. Daily Passport is here to help guide you through where to go, and they named a New England vacation destination as a spot that is on the rise.
“Whether you prefer a mountain getaway, a cabin in the forest, or a sandy beach, you don’t need to pack your passport — America has you covered,” they say.
Overall, six unique places across the country are highlighted. What they have in common is that they are not obvious summer choices. In fact, they may qualify as under the radar or even up-and-coming. Moreover, each of them is easy to get to. You can pack your bags, throw them in the back of the family van (or throw them in the overhead compartment, and in a few quick hours, you’re at your summer vacation spot.
So, if you are wondering what Oklahoma, Colorado, and Vermont have in common, they all offer a fun summertime, according to Daily Passport.
Burlington, Vermont Is The New England Vacation Destination Featured
The University of Vermont or Lake Champlain may be the first things that come to mind when you think of Burlington. In the warmer months, it’s truly a place that has it all, including hiking, swimming, and great food.
“If you want to get out onto the water, book a sunset sailing cruise or check out Nauti Paddle for a paddleboat tour of nearby Lake Champlain,” Daily Passport suggests. From Boston, you get to Burlington in under a four-hour drive.
As someone who has recently traveled to Burlington a few times to visit a family member, I have a few great spots to point out.
If you are going the tourist route and love to take in attractions, the UVM campus is a beautiful place to walk around. It’s essentially neighbors with Champlain College, and both offer a line of sight to the lake down the hill. It’s a great city to bike around as well.
The downtown Main St. square is filled with great places to eat. In the summer, you can find street musicians and art all over the streets. My top three suggestions for places to eat include American Flatbread, Pizzeria Ida, and The Whiskey Room.
Note that the latter is not family-friendly, as you must be 25 years old to enter. To pair with the wide-array of bourbon, scotch, and whiskey options, the everything bagel pretzel rods and chicken and bourbon ragu is outstanding.
