Massachusetts: This Is Where You Get The Best Plate Of Pasta On Cape Cod
Sometimes, the most enjoyable things come from the most unexpected places. We mean this only as a compliment. Case in point: the best pasta on Cape Cod that I’ve ever had certainly caught me by surprise.
We’re traveling to Brewster here and will soon arrive at what appears to be a white cottage but is actually a delicious restaurant.
Let me set the table, so to speak. In the late spring and early summer of 2020, my family and I were lucky enough to occasionally relocate our lives to a small bayside place nestled down a tight, winding road in Cape Cod. These were pandemic times, so our intent in going here was simply a change of scenery. It was an hour and half a way and a so generous family member who was out of town would let us crash at their Cape pad.
Of course, not many activities were open, nor was there public engagement or camps for my little kids to partake in. Cooking at home became one of the things to do each day. Occasionally, we would find a place that was kindly doing take-out orders.
In this case, we found a private restaurant right down the road. We wanted to both support the small business and also change up the meal options occasionally.
I first drove right past this white cottage-looking house; it’s easy to miss. It only displays a small sign out front. Spinnaker, located at 2019 Main Street in Brewster, was perfectly packaging up phone orders, giving you a pick up time, and then bringing out your food in to-go bags. They even gave you a specific parking detail.
Meet The Best Pasta On Cape Cod That I’ve Ever Had
I should note that I have frequented Cape Cod for well over 20 years. Therefore I’ve tried many different restaurants of all cuisine types. Four years ago, I ordered the Ragu Bolognese off the Spinnaker menu, and was blown away.
Pasta can be a hard meal to rave about when it is ordered as a takeout item. Sometimes, it doesn’t travel well or hold up as well as it does when served fresh out of the kitchen. If I recall correctly, Spinnaker had a concise menu they were serving during this summer of 2020. The Bolognese was one of the item, and happens to be a favorite option of mine.
Here’s what made this so incredibly good. It’s all homemade by “Chef Rob.” They roll and cook the pasta in-house. The fresh meat sauce is then mixed with a hint of cream and topped with parmesan. It’s as authentic as you can get. Each part of this pasta dish seems to be made separately, then perfectly blended together. The meat in the sauce is flavorful yet does not take over the meal. If you have sauce left in the dish, it’s one where you will then soak it up with bread because you don’t want to leave any remaining.
If you are unfamiliar, Spinnaker is labeled as an Italian restaurant. They also have steak, swordfish, and Greek salad. Still, this pasta dish is one where you take your time and eat each noodle separately because you want to soak in all the flavors. It’s rich, but not overwhelmingly so. Actually, my only complaint was that my portion felt small (my appetite was just large), so the next time I just ordered two.
There must be a reason why Spinnaker has preserved that simple “home” look to their ambiance. Each dish is cooked and delivered with pride where you are essentially invited into their kitchen, even when you meal is to-go.
My family and I will be returning to Brewster this summer for the first time since 2021. We don’t have any set plans laid out yet, except for a dinner plan at this restaurant of choice
