Kenny Chesney: The Song That Is Part of His DNA
Kenny Chesney released his Born album earlier this year. Two of the songs from the record have topped the country charts this year, including his last single, “Take Her Home,” which became his 33rd career number-one.
However, there is another song on the project that the singer finds extra special. Kenny shares that while he loves all the songs on his album Born, there’s something about his new single, “Just To Say We Did.”
Chesney told us, “There’s a lot of music on this record that holds a significance for me, or they wouldn’t have made the record. I think the most authentic one for me is ‘Just To Say We Did.’ It truly is a part of my DNA…my life experiences.”
He added, “But it doesn’t have to be the experiences that we describe in the song. It can be anything you do with friends, with family whatever it is to create connection and the intimate details that later in life that you’re going to look back on.”

Chesney is deep into his simmer “Sun Goes Down Tour” with Zac Brown Band, Uncle Kracker, and recent Megan Moroney. He plays stadiums throughout the summer.
Kenny told us recently that the life that keeps him on the road can add layers to his personality, as complicated as that can make things. But he still frequently reverts to that kid from East Tennessee.
Chesney said, “I think that when you travel as much as we’ve traveled and you have all these life experiences on the road for all these years, you become more complicated because you see a lot of things…”
He added, “But then again, I think that for me and the way I grew up, I’m very simple all at the same time.”
