Last night’s 56th Annual CMA Awards had many incredible highlights. They paid tribute to Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, and the late Jerry Lee Lewis and even mentioned Country Music Hall of Famer’s Alabama’s Jeff Cook, who passed away on Monday (11/7).

This year’s show featured highlights including:

  • Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Reba McEntire paid tribute to Loretta Lynn in song.
  • Lainey Wilson and Hardy’s chilling performance of their duet “Wait In The Truck.”
  • Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Lainey Wilson and Jon Pardi paid tribute to Alan Jackson, who won the night’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Jackson even performed himself and gave a long and emotional speech in accepting the honor.
  • Another fantastic performance from Male Vocalist winner Chris Stapleton who was joined by fellow Kentucky native Patty Loveless to honor their home state with “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive.”
  • Lainey Wilson got quite emotional and speechless after winning the Female Vocalist Award on her first time nominated.
  • Jordan Davis won his first CMA Award in the Song of The Year category for his duet with Luke Bryan, “Buy Dirt.” The award was extra special because Jordan won the honor with his brother, who co-wrote the song.
  • Jo Dee Messina joined Cole Swindell to sing his current chart-topper “She Had Me at Heads Carolina,” a song based on Messina’s 1996 hit “Head Carline, Tails California.”
  • Carly Pearce paid tribute to Loretta Lynn with her song “Dear Miss Loretta,” with Ricky Skaggs playing guitar beside her.
  • Elle King paid tribute to the late Jerry Lee Lewis with “Great Balls Of Fire,” backed by rock band the Black Keys. Just like Jerry Lee used to do: the piano was set on fire at the end of the song.
  • Luke Combs got teary-eyed accepting his second consecutive Entertainer of the Year award, thanking his wife and fans.
