I’ve heard a lot of people complain about graduation ceremonies for little kids. “How are they going to appreciate the ‘real’ graduations when they get older?” ” This is ridiculous!” “They haven’t even done anything yet!” So many complaints. But hear me out. If we didn’t have pre-school and kindergarten graduation, we would never get the gems we have on TikTok. Especially the kids on TikTok who were fabulously extra at graduation.

I remember years ago seeing babies graduate with handmade paper plate hats and maybe something wrapped around them for a gown. Well now, things have gotten a lot more elaborate. There are actual graduation caps and gowns, photoshoots, decorations, and parties. I don’t remember having one of these, but I am so here for it.

The kids are extra!

Then, there are always the kids who are just so extra when it comes to the actual ceremony. The kids who were born to stand out. The ones who may be told that they’re “too much” or need to “chill.” Let those babies be! There’s nothing like that one kid who goes dancing down the aisle. Or the kid singing louder than everyone else. The kid who has their own moves when it comes to the school performance. Let them shine.

Let’s face it, if you see an extra kid, there’s probably an extra parent right behind them and cheering the loudest. I love this so much, and doing the research for this and watching all the TikToks make me laugh so hard. My spirits were immediately lifted and I know yours will be too.

Teachers too

And even though they’re not kids graduating, I had to include some videos of teachers who were “extra extra.” TikTok creator Yazzmin Johnson, a teacher from Missouri, created the summer anthem for teachers called Keep Them Kids!  You will laugh until you cry as teachers create their own videos to the songs.

Congratulations to all the graduates, big and small. We are so proud of you, and can’t wait to see how your life unfolds. Have a safe and happy summer. And to the teachers, enjoy it. You deserve it all!
