Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman, Mass. invented the chocolate chip cookie in 1938. She owned the Toll House Inn. You can probably out the connection there.
Clam Chowder
Ye Olde Union Oyster House in Boston served it up before anyone else back in 1836. Take that, Manhattan!
Computer Spreadsheets
The first electronic spreadsheet available for home and office use was created on an Apple II computer in 1979.
The Dictionary
Merriam-Webster, based in Springfield, published the first American-English Dictionary in 1831.
Dr. Seuss
He grew up in Springfield. Just like Homer Simpson.

Did you know the famous poet was born in Boston?

American inventor Henry Ellis Warren created the first electric clock in Whitman, MA in 1918.
